After reading this and some of Heinlein’s other material I’m going to conclude that he was really into polyamory or he was fully convinced it was the way of the future. The women he writes are too overly agreeable for my tastes but I will say they have more dimension than other male sci-fi writers of the time give theirs. Everything I’ve read of his is so damned original and detailed even if I think the stories are kind of boring that I have to give him props. I also loved the character Jubal. He was so real and well thought out.

A classic!! RA Heinlein is a master at thought provocation. The story while a masterpiece it's the concepts that Mr Heinlein weaves into the story is what really makes this a 5 star story. Really worth the time taken to read

I regret picking this up, it was such a chore to finish.  It is the literal definition of a book that has aged poorly, and not just because of the extremely outdated language. Based on the premise, I expected some insights into human society that might still be relevant today, but unfortunately the book never achieves escape velocity from the author's very specific time, place and psyche.  All we get is a lot of ponderous dialogue about a very American strain of organized religion, a brief tour of the seediest scenery of mid 20th century America (circus carnies, Vegas strip shows) and a look at the sexual fantasies of a fairly unimaginative 1960's chauvinist.  Unless that happens to be what you're looking for, steer well clear.

A little different for Heinlein. Excellent book that can read as straight sci-fi or an allegory of the story of Jesus.

This classic sci-fi work about a boy raised by Martians and what happens when he tries to bring their teachings back to Earth. Involves nudity, cannibalism and lots of sex. Really. How could you not like this book?
