I based my rating off of a combination of Goggins' writing and his story. No doubt that his story is amazing and inspirational.
I did not finish this book. I liked how determined David is. I really think he is an extraordinary person. But I did not resonate with his writing style or his story as much as I hoped to. I will take with me that we all have the power to be resilient individuals- i just wasn't interested in reading about navy seal camp.

Wow
After listening to David tell his story on the Joe Rogan podcast, I had to read the book to get the detailed story. His story pulls the rug out from under excuses getting in the way of living at a higher level.

Lots of thoughts on this book:
-He comes across as angry and constantly feeling never good enough, never satisfied. His quest to be the best is like an addiction and he seems to embrace self flagulation and using these races as numbing to the pain of his childhood. I would hope that he gets therapy as being this angry will kill him and his spirit eventually.
-Despite my annoyances and thinking he’s a bit crazy for doing this to his body the book was brilliant. The writing is strong and the book has gotten a bit under my skin a bit and made me think quite a lot about my own mental blocks in life and how I’ve limited myself. It’s incredibly inspiring and makes you want to do better. I’m usually not a fan of books like this but feel like I want to do better and be better after having read this

I expected this to be a broad list of accomplishments - instead this was a book about failure and persistence. There was some deep vulnerability in here. I hope Goggins outruns those early demons.
