Couldn’t resist getting this adaptation of Robin Hobb’s [b:Assassin's Apprentice|21956219|Assassin's Apprentice (Farseer Trilogy, #1)|Robin Hobb|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1398083044l/21956219._SY75_.jpg|171715], wondering how her prose and story would fare. In this first volume collecting the first 6 instalments, we are introduced to our beloved Fitz, the narrative following pretty closely to the novel’s. It is interesting how certain aspects had to be translated for a visual medium, namely the Wit and the Skill, but also more mundane ones, such as the look of our characters, something that was tainted by Fitz’s point of view in the book (everyone as ‘old’ when they weren’t). The art of course adds its own layer of meaning. I can’t help thinking I prefer the words in this instance ;O)
A solid adaptation of the original, it really has the same feel as the novel.
I think it's high time I reread Assassin's Apprentice.
I missed these characters too much.

love it as an adaptation! the choices on what to omit as narration and display as art still conveyed the full picture
the art, that so carefully displayed all settings and environments and clothes, had a few problems for me:
the art, that so carefully displayed all settings and environments and clothes, had a few problems for me:
- it does not convey the youth of the adult characters very well. at the end of the first book, verity (and by extension probably burrich as well) is in his early 30s. they do not look it
- the animals, who are a very important part of the story, have dubious anatomies. the panel of the newborn puppy (being fed egregiously on his back) is going to haunt me

The graphic adaptation of the first of Robin Hobb's Assassin books. I am encouraged to read the series again, it's wonderful reading and it's been far too long.

I was really excited to read this adaptation I enjoyed this more the more I read of it, I though the final chapter of this volume with Molly was especially well done, but overall I'm not sure a graphic novel format of this story works for me. It definitely made me realise how much the writing itself has made me love the original series.
I feel a bit like I need to restore how I originally envisioned some of the characters in my head now (especially Burrich! He looks so much older than I imagined him, which would make the ending to the original trilogy especially awkward)
