4 1/2 stars, I bumped up for keeping my interest through 600 pages.

She does sometime drone on about worries about how the other person feels but it wasn't as bad in this one and the storyline pulls you one way and then the other. Your emotions are definitely tapped to high then low and back again. You feel for both of the characters though sometimes I felt Zarya didn't see the big picture. Darling is too quick to forgive but that is what makes him who he is. He takes up for everyone, taking care of everyone, and they all kick him when he is down. I think I loved his family more than any other of the series so far. Actually this was the best book of the series as this series is only so good, not an A series, but this on was.

Damn she likes to torture her characters, it was a little too much in this one but... at least she didn't "fix" him right as rain. Maris's total devotion to Dar was so touching but sad in so many ways. I'm glad she gave him a happy ending and has a book coming to tell the story.

Very good read that I put off because the series wasn't compelling me. Now I can't wait for the next.

This book did not sit well with me. I love Kenyon's series: Dark Hunter, Chronicles of Nick, and so far The League. No real huge complaints with the books until now. The internal monologues always get a bit repetitive, but that is pretty much a constant in all the books. What bothered me so much about this book was the character of Zarya. The fact I disliked her so much is probably a compliment to Kenyon's writing. Her selfishness and ability to conveniently forget all the horrors brought on Darling by her hand, directly and indirectly, caused me to slam the book down several times. Add to that, Darling went through 19 weeks of torture (which was way over the top and I skipped over some of the torture stuff simply because it was so over the top and didn't make complete sense to me. ), yet Zarya spends one day in the kitchen of Darling's estate and throws a tizzy because she was humiliated and the cook was abusive? This one moment for some reason completely sealed my opinion of Zarya. If not for my overwhelming need to finish things I start, I would have given up this book after the first couple of chapters.

My issues with Zarya was paled only by Kenyon overlooking the possibility and opportunity to create a book based on Maris and Darling's history which could have culminated in a great love story. I completely understand the possible reasons why she decided Darling was pretending to be gay (readership and target audience maybe?)

Finally, I've sworn off the epilogues in these books. Everyone is very cookie cutter and the same. Really, does everyone have to have a baby and get pregnant? I'm sure this appeals to some readers, but for me, it was just a big throwaway that honestly didn't add anything to the story or the characters.

This book hasn't ruined the series for me, but I'm so glad that Kenyon's series jumps around to various characters as the main focus. If the rest of the series was about Darling and Zarya, I am certain this would be the last book I would read in The League.

I would give this book one star; however, despite his faults, I have enjoyed the character of Darling so far in the series and in this book for the most part. I also love Maris and wish he could have a book of his own. In addition, this book has a lot of the same elements as the books before which I also enjoyed.

Born of Silence My journey through the League Universe has been a mediocre one at best, with most of the stories only coming in at a 3 star rating until now. I started it last evening and could not put it down! For the first 31% into it, I did nothing but cry! Darling quickly became my favorite hero of the series, due to his attitude after so much abuse. I liked that Zarya had a heart and sensitive side, even though she was a tough fighter and Resistance leader. The book showcased the love that they had for one another, even though we really didn't get to see that love develop over the course of the book. However, we did see it deepen and overcome adversity. This is most definitely not a stand alone book, but it is a very worth while read!

OMG!

I worried like everyone did I think about how Darling being straight would go. I need to learn not to worry.

Like every league book I've read so far I felt sad when this ended. And now I have a whole year to wait for Hauk's book. I'm kind of sad that Jayne's already got kids so she wont have a story, but who know?

I love this series and Born of Silence was no exception. Darling is awesome and Zarya is a great match for him, sigh. Now I have wait and its gonna be excruciating.

I love Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series (especially the early stuff) and have enjoyed the other league books so I am very familiar with the way her character have very tragic and traumatic pasts which they survive and then find love usually during and interesting and fast paced adventure with lots of action and witty repartee. Unfortunately in this book we got bucket loads of tragedy, trauma and torture of our hero with very little story beyond that. This was an extremely long book - 632 pages. I would say about 550 pages were devoted to a very descriptive and detailed retelling about all the horrible hideous things our hero has suffered through over the years including torture, rape, degradation and some of the resulting angst felt by the hero & heroine as a result of this and about 50 or so pages to anything even resembling a story.

Rating- 3.5 Would be awesome if not frustrating
Heat- 3 A few scenes

Darling has hidden his true self to protect his mother for years. Only his best friend, Marris knows him completely. He even hides from the people he considers family, the Sentella. Despite everyone believing he is gay, he has been secretly in love with Zarya, the leader of the Resistance, as Kere, his Sentella alter ego. Before he can reveal his true identity to her, he is captured by the Resistance as Darling and tortured. Zarya and the Resistance have hated Darling and his ruling family for decades, so they hold no punches when they have him in their clutches. The problem is that they don’t realize the man they believe to be a spoiled prince is actually the Sentella member who fought along side them. Darling is destroyed by their torture and Zarya’s betrayal. Now he has become someone to fear.

Ok, let’s address the elephant in the room first. Lots of people had issues w SK suddenly making the always gay Darling a straight male. Many felt it smacked of homophobia. Now, I’m straight myself, so I won’t speak as an LGBTQ person, but I thought this clearly was NOT the case. First, the backstory is so rich that it becomes clear that Darling was never gay. This wasn’t a change she made. It was a plot point. Second, openly gay characters like Marris and Ture are fleshed out wonderful characters. They aren’t added just for diversity.

Overall, I loved this story. What it had going for it is that it seems to be bringing the series together. Previously each book ended w a fully wrapped up story. We are finally getting to a series plot.

What drove me nuts is that SK seems to write endlessly about background while leaving out scenes I am DYING to read. I NEEDED to see the Resistance guys realize that Darling was Kere and they were screwed. I wanted to know what happened to Senna who spread such tales about him. Instead I got countless stories of how he was mistreated as a child. We get it, it sucked.

Wow. What to say? Poor, poor, Darling! This book is right up there with Acheron's as far as the emotional roller coaster of a ride and past / present torment goes. Damn. I was not ready for that ride—I hadn't even finished latching all my safety restraints!
