I liked this book and it's premise. It's a memoir. But little things bothered me, such as the layout of the house. It must be a split level, they were always going upstairs to the kitchen.
I think we should all try to channel our inner hopeful 10 year old girls.

Audio. Read for book club. I usually like it when an author reads her own work, but this author was a bit dry. It took an effort to keep up with the sad, angry, depressing, alienating, grieving part of the book, which I felt lasted too long - but at the same time, I certainly understand that this part is realistic. I just didn't want to dwell there. The best part for me was the very end when the author explains who was giving the gifts and why.
This is a feel good holiday read - relates a hard situation of a family trying to cope with a sudden tragic loss ahead of the holiday season. A “miracle” happens to bless this family, thanks to kind souls in their community that understand their struggles due to their own previous loss.
Wonderful, so inspiring. It makes you want to run out and do a good deed for those in need! Thank you for sharing this story with us!
Maybe not the greatest writing in the world, but fabulous story about kindness and grief. I love that it is true, there really are good people out there.
This was very bittersweet for me to read right before Christmas. So relatable if you have lost a loved one, especially if that loss came at the holidays. The author reads the audiobook, which was poignant for me to hear this account through her own voice. This one really tugged at my heart strings, but ultimately left me feeling grateful.
We started this 13 days before Christmas and read one chapter per day. It's been a very busy December so there were a couple nights we missed and had to read two the next night to stay on schedule, but overall it was a very good system given the nature of the story which follows a family who receives one gift per day in the 12 days leading up to Christmas.
If you've always been a Grinch, this isn't likely to convert you, but if you do love Christmas it's a really heart warming true story that highlights all the things I love about the holiday.
Of all the books we read this year, I think this will be the one that I recommend to the most people once December rolls around again next year. I can think of dozens of people who I'm positive would enjoy it just as much as Laura and I did, but because of the way that we read it, the pushy recommendations will have to wait until next year.
But seriously. I'm going to tell almost everyone I know who likes Christmas that they should check it out next holiday season.

I though this was an absolutely amazing and truly heartwarming story. It really shows that there are good people in the world and also how the smallest act of kindness can mean so much to someone. It's inspiring. I feel that this is a book that can change someone's life as they jump from page to page. I loved reading it and I will look at the world differently. . . Especially after the loss of a loved one.
