Think lifetime movie.
Love, cheating, revenge, murder, and a few dark twists along the way. Overall I enjoyed the book, it had a bit slow start for me but once chapter 3 hit, the pacing was perfect and I couldn’t put it down.  The story is told from the FMC POV as she recounts the events that lead you to her present time. Well written and well executed.

The narration was GREAT! The cadence of her voice for so well with the character and the change in emotions was perfect for the format of the story. I will be searching out more books by the narrator!

This is actual proof that The Art of War isn't a useful book anymore.

This was pretty entertaining and stressful. Stressful is good in a thriller. I really needed to know how it would all play out.

So glad that I finally got to “The Sunday Girl” on my “to read” list. The blurb had me intrigued. The novel did not disappoint. It had me captivated from the start. Along the way it took some unexpected twists and turns, making it difficult to put the novel down.

The author has cleverly interwoven parts of “The Art of War” into the story line. Although “the war” between Taylor and Angus is fought with modern technology instead of conventional weaponry, strategies as discussed in “The Art of War”, remain the same.

The novel demonstrates how easy it is to fool oneself into believing that you are a protector, care giver and nurturer in a loving relationship, when in fact, the relationship has turned toxic. Taylor is in denial about the unhealthy an unacceptable behaviour of Angus. She does not trust him but her needy personality desperately wants him to love her. Angus is demanding, controlling, abusive and dishonest and plays on Taylor’s insecurities.

The suspense build up in the novel was excellent, but I felt the ending let it down a little. I personally would have preferred a slower paced ending.

I highly recommend this novel to anyone who likes to read a well written suspense novel.

This was a great thriller! I finished this page-turner in two days, and that was only because I didn't have more time to read in my busy schedule, otherwise, I would have finished it in a day. Hearing that this is the author's debut novel, I will definitely be looking out for more of her work. This book was super entertaining, suspenseful, and the writing was really good. Also, it contained Art of War quotes which I thought made a very nice contribution. My only points of criticism are that I would have liked to read more about the relationship between Taylor and David, and I don't think all of Taylor's actions were believable. All in all, this was an amazing debut novel and I would definitely recommend it to all thriller lovers!

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Ok……this one was another “I don’t know where I stand with it” so let’s break it down.

Thriller aspects - great
Twists and turns - impressive
Pacing - spot on

But where it falls apart is the characters. So firstly, Angus is the worlds biggest (insert really rude inappropriate words here) and he deserves everything he gets in this book, his condescending tone when he says darling, like he is really saying “you stupid idiot”. He is controlling, narcissistic, arrogant…did I say controlling? Can’t stand him and he just made me mad, so I’m theory very well written.

Now let’s talk about our leading lady Taylor. Throughout this book, she references the “The Art of War”. She starts strong when she find out her ex has released a sex tape while he was high on drugs, she is pumped and in complete revenge mode. She orders $3000 worth of prostitutes on his company card as revenge, I was thinking, this is one strong women. But it goes down hill from there when he shows up “sober” saying he is now in AA and with flowers and apologises. She from this point becomes weak, whiny, victimised, and her decision making skills are questionable. Now I understand the mentality behind why people are too scared to leave abusive relationships, but they had already broken up, she was dating other people and she only came back into his life for revenge so this turn around in behaviour was disappointing and I lost a lot of respect. I was yelling at her at one point because she was acting just so naive!

Overall this was disappointing because you are supposed to be on Taylor’s side but for anyone who has read this you know the ending and quite frankly, I’m not happy with it, I would have liked to see more retribution for actions of BOTH characters. I’m still interested in Pip Drysdale as an author, because I can see there being a book of hers that I do really like as she has all the great elements, but so far that’s strike 2.
