All in all, a huge letdown. The story is engaging enough at times, but then it gets jerked into a ridiculous inner monologue that totally kills the momentum. Very little character development, but don't worry, because we know what every last person is wearing at all times. Honestly, it reads like a rough draft, not a finished product. I guess this is one I don't need to own. I know I'll never read it again.

After reading several chapters this book seems like a modern Murder on the Orient Express: Ocean Liner Edition....except the writing is subpar compared to Agatha Christie. There really was no real suspense moments in this book - okay there was two, maybe, three but you knew what’s coming, it’s so predictable. Now that I think about it, it’s all very predictable. Very Nancy Drew....heck even Carolyn Keene wrote better. I was super confused on how the title fit into the book. Come to find out on the last page and honestly they could have done better. Willy and Alvirah could have been better developed. And I was disappointed with Celia in the end. For how much MHC put into Yvonne I was disappointed how she didn’t wrap up what happened to her. Just briefly told us what happened. Either fully put something into her story or leave it out. It was a quick and easy read.

Despite it all I had a hard time putting it down and mildly enjoyed this book. If you’re looking for a quick and easy read that won’t make you think too much, then this is for you!

This is my “a Murder Mystery” for the book challenge I’m doing this year.

This book was fun! It's like a classic whodunit but takes place in a cruise ship and since I love cruises, it just made it even better. You get introduced to all the characters before the craziness starts then have to figure out who did it (I guessed incorrectly). Even though Mary Higgins Clark books seem to follow the same formula, I still love all of them - including this one. I would recommend it!

If Jessica Fletcher from Murder, She Wrote and Scooby Doo dated for quite some time because they're both the old fashioned kind and had a baby, it would be this book.
I liked the writing (very Agatha Christie, but with a spicy note all of its own) and the page-turning short chapters that made it easy for me to read for hours straight without even notice time pass.
I also probably am in the right mood to enjoy the whole bad guys have what they deserve kind of vibe you breath through the pages. Not entirely realistic, a bit exaggerated, but still very optimistic.

Sure, it wasn't the most original of plotlines, but damn was it intriguing.

Pretty typical MHC, but a great vacation read.

So, confession time: I love Mary Higgins Clark. I own 98% of her books. She is my go-to easy read when I want to sit in the tub for a couple of hours with a glass of wine and not think about anything in the real world.

And so, all of her books will likely gain 5 stars from me. It’s just the truth. I’m so accustomed to her writing that I find it hard to analyze or judge it. But let’s be honest here—I don’t read MHC because she comes up with shocking, groundbreaking thrillers. To me, MHC is my Agatha Christie or Arthur Conan Doyle. She writes stories with interesting plots that I sometimes surprise me and sometimes they don’t. I like her mysteries because, to me, her characters are always fun and quirky and interesting.

At the end of a long day, when I’m exhausted by 5:30PM and am trying to avoid falling asleep before at least 8:30, I reach for a MHC and relax into it. I know, without a doubt, that I’ll enjoy it, and I know it won’t trick me or pull out some sort of crazy, unbelievable twist, or leave me sitting up until midnight thinking about ramifications of motherhood on a woman’s agency and individuality like some high-brow, deep, “literature” novels would. MHC is like my cup of hot cocoa by the fire: simple, consistent, nostalgic, and always, always good.

Very much a classic Higgins Clark novel. Alvirah and Willy are on the cruise of a lifetime. A brand new ship on its maiden voyage. Attended by movie stars, one lucky lottery winner, a woman who's trying to escape the news that her ex-fiance is the puppeteer of an elaborate Ponzi scheme, another woman with a fabulous, but supposedly cursed necklace, and an international jewel thief after the necklace.
Like most Clark novels, there are very short chapters of overlapping stories. Regular readers will enjoy.
