But my phone buzzes a moment later. It's Iris:
I don't know how to type in the game
Meanwhile what the fuck is Gideon doing
4.5 stars. You know, I haven't read this kind of YA contemporary for so long. For a couple of years I've been slowly breaking up with that genre, and that's okay! Not everything is meant to be, etcetera etcetera. But you can't give me :
I thought I wouldn’t enjoy reading young adult books anymore. Then suddenly, I came across this one, got hooked from the first chapter, and couldn’t help but yapping, “THANK GOD, I can still giggle over two idiots falling in love.”
Foolish Hearts is the perfect blend of everything I consider a comfort book. The plot is "regular", but it seemed like Emma Mills didn't need an impressive plot to write a good book. She simply made her characters as real as possible with common teenagers, adding a bunch of witty dialogues (ngl, the book is hilarious and true to the characters), and ... BOOM! You get Foolish Hearts as a delightful read that won't make you stop flipping through the pages.
I got so emotionally invested, knowing this book is filled with love—and I mean LOVE, in all its forms and meanings.
1. Genuine friendship between girls. Forget enemies to lovers, you get enemies to friends here!! To make it even better, you also get long-lasting childhood friends. Choose your favorite… oh wait, you don’t have to because both will resonate with you.
2. Precious bromance in which the guys truly see each other as brothers. Who says guys can’t be affectionate, huh?
3. Siblings dynamic where their love speaks louder through actions (and VIDEO GAMES) than words.
4. Fluffy romance featuring a sarcastic FL x goofy ML. Gosh, Claudia and Gideon’s banter really jumps off the pages and had me kicking the air.
All these relationships were portrayed in ridiculous, messy, yet beautiful way. Though I love most of the characters and their superb chemistry, some of them can be “annoying” as well. However, isn’t that how we were as teenagers? Dumb, self-centered, making plenty of stupid decisions. The only thing that irritated me was how mean Iris at the beginning of the book (won't justify her pas behavior, but I do love her improvement). See? This book just blew me away with its wonderfully flawed characters and relatable development.
Ofc, it's not a perfectly well-written book (disclaimer: not completely free of cringeworthy scenes lol) but whatever, I'm okay being cringe for a while.
By the time I reached the last page, my heart felt so full. Sometimes, maybe all I need is a book like this—no need for surprising twists, angsty plot, or complicated characters, just wholesome relationships in general. Instead of stumbling into a "too good to be true" story, it's easy to imagine Foolish Hearts as a slightly more vibrant reflection of my youth days. Sadly, I didn't find a guy as cute as Gideon during high school *cough.
Damn, I also think I love Gideon Prewitt a little too much. Dear YA writers, PLEASE bring us more fictional weirdo-sunshine guys like him. I'M BEGGING YOU.

this book had no right making me so goddamn happy. I just want to experience it all over again
I loved the friendships, the love and the heartbreak but more than anything the sheer amount of joy I felt when iris gets claudia into her favorite band and then they start fangirling together, if that isn’t me with all my friends over every movie, tv show, book and bts especially bts.

Another fantastic Emma Mills book! Just might be her best one yet!
Perfectly fluffy, like a modern day Jane Austen. I found the narrative voice of our MC Claudia hilarious, her blossoming romance with sweet and goofy Gideon adorable, and all the friendships (especially Iris-Claudia and Gideon-Noah) and close-knit family ties heart-warming. As a bonus, the plot includes a performance of my favorite play A Midsummer Night's Dream in addition to K-Pop fandom and a fantasy MMORPG so there's a very nerdy vibe that I appreciated.
I really loved this! Claudia was great - she just seemed so real. Flawed but just figuring out and navigating life. The friendships, new and old, were the best. Gideon was so swoon worthy, the sibling relationships were top notch and TION made me think 1D which just made me relate so much. I feel like the way all the relationships were written were just so genuine it makes my heart so happy to know these people.
This book was an easy read, really simple to follow and a page turner....but don’t let that deter you!

Claudia (such a granny name 👵🏽) is our MC/narrator and she’s a hoot! I don’t curse like she does but her sarcasm and quick, witty retorts made me question if I was reading my own diary at points.
-
The book starts with a bang...things go haywire from the jump and we the reader, are taken for the ride!
The school’s power couple has broken up and Claudia had the gross misfortune of overhearing EVERY. BITTER. WORD. She is unwillingly paired with one of the persons involved in the breakup for a class project...soon the two are spending time together *outside* of the British lit paper. Hijinks, hilarity, and backhanded compliments follow throughout the story and wrap nicely with a bow of completion.

-
Emma Mills is a wonder with words and has a way of making the reader feel as though they are in the story, not as a nosy neighbor, but as perhaps a classmate who happens to be everywhere at the right time. I laughed (out loud) at some of Claudia and Gideon’s quips and I my heart shattered for Julia. Amazing. Good stuff.
