adventurous medium-paced

Really good sequel that further explores the themes of the first book while adding on to them and making them more complex. However, the first beginning suffers from pacing issues because the author has a lot of lore to explain that they didn’t do in the last book which makes the beginning of the novel move at a break neck pace as so much information is dropped on the reader and they move to several new locations with many new characters. However, this did allow the rest of the book to move at a slower pace and really dive more into the implications of the lore and the weight of the choice Deka has to make. Also the twist were an alluded to a bit to heavily, but not all of them and didn’t ruin the message. Good read overall.

Much better than the first. A lot more action, better pacing (though still a bit off at times), lots of interesting plot. Not too much character work in this one but didn't really feel the lack of that too much. Felt like the last book rather than the middle one.

the merciless ones holds up wonderfully when compared to its predecessor. there were so many plot twists and discoveries, it kept me hooked. all the characters, especially deka, are so badass i love them. i loved how they were there to support each other through dealing with their trauma. i can't wait for the last book.
