Every chapter follows another person and their story/their connection to the Convenience store. I loved the concept and the vibes are immaculate. There isn’t much plot going on or at least not one main story line that weaves itself through the entire story. I really enjoyed following these individuals. Sometimes the smallest most mundane things can make a great difference.
The only thing that I noticed towards the end of the book, was how similar all the characters turned out to be. They all seemed to have the same flaws, characteristic traits or struggles. Both Azusa and Kosei being the „not so cool and not so attractive kid with their much cooler and more confident besties“, or Kiriyama and Yoshiro both seeking change in their „boring“ lives. It felt a little repetitive towards the end and I felt like there could have been a few more everyday struggles introduced. But that’s really a small complaint for this great story, in the end it was such a wholesome read!

This genre of Japanese novella is always a fun and quick read and this one was no exception. Cute interconnected stories, felt like this one was even more tied together than usual because of the several constant characters and the setting involving not just the convenience store. I will say that the problems that these people are facing in the beginning are very real but they're so whiny about it I was not enthused but it always resolves nicely. I need to stop reading books about men getting bullied. I liked chapters 3, 4, and 5 and 5 was cool because it was kind of unexpected in its empowering of male friendship.

What a delightful story full of delightful characters. I am such a sucker for a book that centers around a simple or innocuous location, but where all different types of people have chance encounters that change their lives (in big or small ways). It was adorable how this store strove to be a real community center, not only by having an eating area, but also by having the lunch system set up to check on all the seniors and provide them with social interactions and friends. I love how all the stories seem to span out and then come back again to the store in such meaningful ways. I loved all the quirky characters who come into each others lives in different ways, but all related to this store. This made me laugh and some people's stories had me tearing up and then later making me smile. There is so much human compassion and human nature spun into this book that I could not stop reading.
Note: I listened to the audiobook and the narrator has the most soothing voice that really makes you feel warm, fuzzy, and welcome in the story.
Thanks to the publisher for a free copy; my thoughts and review are my own.

this was a much enjoyable read although there wasn't anything particularly spectacular about it. it didn't lack in anything nor was there anything rather intriguing about this novel, but i overall enjoyed reading it regardless of the fact that i got into a little slump in the time that it took for me to start and finish the book. i also liked that it reminded me alot of 'before the coffee gets cold' based off of the patterns of each of the characters introduced in each chapter and how there were recurring themes of the characters having negative emotions in the beginning and then eventually coming to a positive resolute in the end. this was both a plot and character-driven book which is one thing that i admired about it.
i saw alot of good reviews prior to reading this so i naturally had really high expectations that were quite frankly not meant but i honestly have nothing negative to say about it. and i do believe that there are people that would greatly enjoy this book.
