I think I will pick this book up again at some point. I’m stressed about all my ARCs I have to read this month and need to put my time into those. But at the same time listening to this book feels like a chore. I’m not looking forward to it.
Really boring, didn’t click with the writing or the characters. Didn’t care what happened.
“When you give me your heart, colleen, I want all of it. I want all of you. If you are sharp with broken thorns, then let them cut me. If you churn with dark shadows, let them engulf me. And if your love only destroys, let it destroy me. I am already a doomed man.”
“Love is rarely anything but a prelude to tragedy.”
I went into this not knowing a whole lot about Celtic influence and mythology, nor the origins of the black swan/ swan lake story. And I was surprised to find how much I absolutely loved some of the concepts, and setting. The magic systems use of nature was unique and beautifully done.
I absolutely loved the authors writing style, both poetic and expressive. It fit the setting extremely well. I felt I was reading out of a magical storybook.
While some of the twists in the story were predictable, the ending actually gave me chills. I absolutely loved how the story was wrapped up and gave a heartwarming feeling. I feel like this honestly could’ve just been a stand-alone.
While the writing was lovely, at times it felt a bit overwritten. A lot of the same kinds of descriptions were used repetitively and held back the pacing of the story.
The timeline due to the characters bridge jumping only once a month on a full moon also did a huge disservice to the pacing. I was starting to get stir crazy around the 60% mark because it felt like nothing was happening, and even if something did, we automatically had to go back to spending several chapters waiting between moon cycles. This also really effected my ability to see the connection between Fia and Irían. While the moments they had were lovely, i needed more interaction and more trials and tribulations for them to experience together in order to fully believe 100% in their love story.
Nonetheless,I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys lyrical prose, low stakes plot with deeply explored characters, and/or getting lost in unique, whimsical worlds.

I felt like I was hallucinating half of the time while reading…in a good way. Folk people are in lots of fantasy books but I feel like this one was a lot more accurate to the Irish origins of the fae.
I really enjoyed the writing style and world building in this.
I really didn’t like the love triangle (or square?) not a lot happens and all the male characters are a bit one dimensional

It is DIABOLICAL how many similes the author wrote in this book. It seemed like every person, place, or thing was described that way. Every dress doesn't need to "whisper against her cobweb pale skin". A person eyes don't need to be "molten gold like a setting sun on a Tuesday in fall on the cusp of winter". Jesus Christ, I cannot finish this.
