A humorous take on the upperclass women in the 1800s. Some sections were better than others, but I learned a lot.
Hilarious. Depraved. Shocking. Entertaining.
Thank goodness women’s rights and science have moved forward since the mid 1800’s.
We still have work to do, though.

This was definitely a fun read. Oneill’s writing is sarcastic and witty. While the book was informative and funny, the writing style sometimes took away from the experience. Also I wished Oneill had included more about what it was like for women of color during the Victorian ages.
Absolutely what I had hoped and dreamed
If you are fascinated by the history of Western women’s condition and feel deprived by your high school history courses that focused solely on The Wars, this book is for you. Not for the faint of heart.

I didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought I would. I didn't like the author's writing style.
Super entertaining, funny, interesting, and sometimes a downright headscratcher. How women survived in that era is beyond me. Also, reading this book definitely helps you realize that the saying "the more things change, the more they stay the same" is 100% true. Shows you what life is really like outside of the romanticized glamour of everyones favorite stories and movies. Gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because it wasnt quite what I expected, with the writing style and stuff, but totally worth a read. If you want a quick, entertaining, informative read about life in the Victorian Era definitely pick this book up! :)
The book was interesting but the writing was a bit too flippant in places. Sometimes the chapter called for a more in-depth discussion of Victorian ideas an instead there would be a joke. I'd still recommend the book as a light-hearted introduction to the subject.
I won this book as a Goodreads Giveaway. It is a hilarious but true look at the Victorian era. It goes into all the real life events that are not so glamorous. Such things as underwear, bathroom routines and even sex.

Awesome look at 19th century life and customs. Ladies who think women's liberation and feminism are "unnecessary" really need to read this book to get a look at their alternate lifestyle options. Also interesting to note that the doctors, writers and "experts" on female health and anatomy of the time (all men) were all largely in favor of spewing alternative facts or whatever they would like to believe are the facts with no notion of supporting research or science of any kind to back their claims....wait...have we really come very far? Yes, yes, indeed we have...I think.
