Kalinda has survived so much. She will continue fighting until she no longer can to save her people. Now that evil has been unleashed and is masking itself as her dead tyrant ex-husband, she will have to do everything in her power to try to stop him or her world may be coming to an end.

Kalinda has always been an amazing character, but seeing her growth through the three books have been inspiring. It's actually been inspiring to watch all of the characters' growth. I just wish we could see more characters. There are some that are more in the background than they should be.

If I can critique anything, I would say the build-up could use a bit of work. In ways, it kind of falls flat throughout the progression of the story. This could just be me being overly critical though. There's nothing majorly wrong with the plot though. I love it. I love the suspense. I guess I am just saying I wish there was more.

This has become one of my most favorite series of all times. I enjoyed it very much. The characters were great. The story was great. I found it very easy to become emotionally invested in the story because of both. I fully recommend this series. Please read the first two books before reading this.

I feel like the ending was slightly more confusing/rushed than the first two books, but nonetheless left me wanting more. Kalinda is just so...GAH, SHE'S AMAZING! <3 I think King should be very proud of writing such an engaging, strong female character that doesn't seem contrived or weirdly inhuman. Kalinda knows what the fuck is up, and she ain't putting up with none of your bullshit.

I really enjoyed reading this book! So many things happened and the stakes were higher than ever in this book. I really like Kalinda as a character and the romance is just meh. It was too rushed in the beginning and I don’t feel like it developed much throughout the series so far. I like everything else though. The mythology and magic are interesting and the different kingdoms are neat. I’m looking forward to the last book. Hopefully it ends on a high note!

The Rougue Queen is the third story in The Hundredth Queen series. I loved the first book. The main character, Kalinda was strong and grew into herself and her powers. This book begins where the second left off, our main characters Kalinda, Ashwin, Devin and company are traveling to the south isles where they can regroup and plan an attack to take back their empire and get rid of the demon Udug. I felt this story dragged. It felt like one step forward and two steps back. It took too long to come to the point. This series was originally meant to be a trilogy book and I must say mid-book I was looking forward to the conclusion. Unfortunately, Emily R. King has decided to extend to at least a fourth book and left this third book unfinished at the end. I am unsure if I will read the next story.

Despite some discrepancies in the book (e.g., people discussing their plans out loud in a world where certain people are gifted with the ability to hear whispers from miles away...), I enjoyed the story and the characters. I moved between reading and audible, and was more bothered by the male narrator than by the story flaws. This narrator pronounced many words in nonstandard forms, and pronounced most of the names differently from the female narrator (who narrated the entire series from the first book).

I normally do not like books that have multiple POV but this one didn’t bother me so much as a gave me a better glimpse into the mind of the characters. I wish there was more tournaments and more depth in the book. The book was really good but not great.
I’m really tired of reading books that have love triangles especially when a relationship is Artie been established with another main character. I just feel like we have ridden that horse past its breaking point, then into the ground, and beat it senseless long past its death. I did like that Kali and Deven’s relationship struggled and wasn’t all hunky dory like in real life. I did not like that Ashwin took advantage of their plight and tried to control Kali by manipulations. Kali let Ashwin pretty much get away with murder and gave Deven lip about it when he pointed out the issues at hand. Very childish and catty on both parts.
The action parts were really good and well written. I feel like they are the only parts of the book that were meaningful when the rest of it lacked the finesse that the first two books had. The new characters and places were a bit hard to follow along with at times and I forgot which way was up. I did enjoy introducing new bhutas from other cultures, there was just too many!
Is it bad that the villain became my favorite character? I am just now sure where the series is really going, and I believe that the storyline was rushed with this one. I do appreciate all the hard work and effort the author put into this book. For the last book, I hope they take their time and solve all of the issues at hand with Kali and her friends/allies because there’s just too much going on and nothing is getting resolved.
I would recommend this book to people who like love triangles, action, and adventure even though this book wasn’t really for me.
Think you know Netgalley and Skyscape for allowing me to read this copy in advance! All thought and comments were my own and in no way influenced.

I didn’t know which way it would go- with Ashwin and Deven, how it would end up for Kali and the empires. I enjoyed the mystery, different storylines, and characters and relationships.
