This book started to slow for me. It took me a bit to understand the characters and what their issues were. Once I did, WOW the book really took off for me and I enjoyed it!

I really enjoyed this book! I liked all the main characters and the plot was just twisty enough to keep me guessing.

Not usually a fan of stories from contemporary South, but the voices in this one were fresh and funny, despite dealing with some pretty disturbing situations (stroke, murder (?,) drug abuse, child abduction.) Definitely reading more by this author.

Great book. Especially for fans of books like The Help, or Secret Life of Bees. It's got that female lead, southern vibe that makes you fall head over heels for these girls. I definitely recommend opening these books and meeting this awesome family.

This book was so good!! I have never read a book by Joshilyn Jackson before and I am currently wondering what I have done wrong in my life because seriously this book was so good! I love reading books from different points of view and this book definitely delivers that. So A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty is pretty much about a relationship between three generations of woman. A very mysterious relationship that is. Ginny, Liza, and Mosey Slocumb are such lovable characters that honestly crack me up. They are so funny and probably relatable to someone out in the world and their own family members. There are a good deal of twist and turns throughout the book that it keeps you on your toes. I am so happy that I found this book and I cannot wait to dive into another books from this author.

Such an enjoyable read! I stayed up way too late on multiple nights reading this book, totally engrossed in this Southern family tale of three generations of women separated by 15 years each. The grandmother is 45, the mother is 30, and the daughter has arrived at the fraught age (for their family history) of 15. It has tinges of that dark Southern gothic thing going on, but it is also a hopeful, funny, sweet book. This is one of those books that I didn't want to put down (cliché!) and that occupied my thoughts as I went about my day-- super compelling and readable but well-crafted.

This was my first book by Joshilyn Jackson and purchased the audio version. The narrator was also the author, a plus-- as she was ideal for the characters and her passion was reflected throughout.

There was much going on in this book and the author does not miss a beat. A Grown up Kind of Pretty, set deep in the south in Mississippi with three generations of women: Jenny (Big) age 45, Jenny’s daughter (Lisa) age 30, and her daughter (Mosey) Age 15. There is much drama and mystery regarding a small grave in their back yard with bones of a baby.

These three women have experienced many hardships yet are bound together by family. Mosey is sassy and spirited and is determined to get to the bottom of the small grave. Liza has experienced a stroke and is haunted by her choices as a teen. However, Jenny the strong and big-hearted grandmother the solid one who defends her family. It's a courageous story about mothers and daughters and the strong and powerful love binding them as family.

A comical southern novel full of banters and one liners which will keep you laughing – no big surprises or big twists; however, if you like Southern Fiction, readers will find entertaining. I look forward to reading more from this author.
