I really liked this one. It starts out to let you think that it is going to be a nice "southern" novel (think Fannie Flagg types, or Red Hats club), but then weaves in enough twists and turns that it keeps you on your toes and you realize you had no idea what to expect. I love that right up to the end, there is really no way to predict how it will end. Good read!

This is such a fun book filled with laughs and an interesting mystery. When I first picked it up I thought I was about to start a good family drama and I got so much more than I expected!
The number 15 is a terrible number for the Slocumb women. Jenny had her daughter, Liza, when she was 15. Liza had her daughter Mosey She was 15. Mosey did not have a baby she was 15, instead Liza suffered a stroke. On the day Jenny has a tree pulled out to put in a pool for Liza’s aqua therapy, a small grave is discovered. No one knows how it got there or of whom the remains belong. Both Jenny and Mosey go on their own journeys to solve the mystery.
Told in alternating viewpoints of all 3 women, Joshilyn Jackson has weaved such a beautiful and enthralling story. I listened to this in a day because I just couldn’t put it down.
I loved how Ms. Jackson so clearly saw the world out of the eyes of a 15 year old and a 45 year old and also through the eyes of a 30 year old stroke victim. The characters she created are so charming and sweet and I truly loved all of them.
This is the first book I’ve read/ listened to by Ms. Jackson but it certainly won’t be the last!

Another great narrative by Joshilyn Jackson. Her writing is powerful, and her stories come to life on the page. I've been a fan for awhile & she definitely didn't let me down with this one!

I loved ALMOST SISTERS, so I picked up another Joshilyn Jackson book hoping for a similar kind of read. A GROWN-UP KIND OF PRETTY is a much more heavy and grim novel. The characters are complex and flawed -- even though I didn't agree with all of their actions, I found them sympathetic. Although this is a character-driven novel, the plot was tense and twisty enough to keep me turning pages. Overall, I found the book depressing but compelling.

Also abandoning this one today. I think the three perspectives were a bit of a drag for me. The big mystery seems pretty spelled out from the beginning too. It's a shame - I want to like Joshilyn Jackson after "The Almost Sisters" but that might be the only book I read by her.

Charming and I think this ties Never Have I Ever for my favorite Joshilyn Jackson novels. A story of three generations of women. Jackson gets the voice of each of these women (age 45, 30, and 15) right - including the one who has had a stroke. At the core is the love among these three women, and the lengths each will go. Each has secrets that lead the other two astray. It's a lovely story and I would love to know Ginny, Liza, and Mosey.

Edited to add after reading other reviews: Word to the wise, if you are a sensitive reader that who only likes characters who are outwardly "godly" (read: self-righteous), please don't read this book. This book features real people, without the self-righteous judgement that turns people away from church instead of toward it.

I would give it 3.5. i wish there were half stars for rating! Not the best writing and I think it started out slow. But it definitely picked up and had me guessing by the end.

Amazing story. This was one of those can't-put-down type books. I loved every single page!
