More of the same. It's fine.
Has weird SA scenes that are uncomfortable and confusing.
I don't know how to feel about this one, but there's vampires. I guess that's a win. I was bored because of the constant conflict and "plot" from the first book and this one. It's draining after a while. Hard to explain how.

Much preferred the Becca and Jody storyline like others have said the Drake and Sylvan one just seemed to progress too quickly and intensely. It was a thoroughly addictive read and I did really enjoy it would love more of Becca and Jody in the next book.

I've tried.
I've failed.
No review.

Don't get me wrong, it's good in a lesbian throbbing, gushing, vagina kind of way. I just don't know how to review it.

Please see the review to the first book here.

In this second installment of this series, there is just as much if not more gushing vaginas and lesbian sex.

In the story itself, we see more relationship development in the personal aspect, but also across the species involved. We get the point of view of the bad guys and more understanding on their motive. We also get the point of view of the victims.

I read this book as something to get out of my comfort zone. It was successful because of these different points of view. The antagonists of this story are cold and malicious, they torture and don't care. We see the victims and how they cope with what is being done to them.

The story itself progresses a lot more in this book.

It was really interesting to see where book two would continue... some aspects were really nice others not so much.

I really did enjoy getting to see how Jody and Becca finally connect, but at the same time it seems rather...funky. The characters seemed rahter different than book one, as if they weren't connected to each other.

Something I didn't like, was the amount of sex. Honestly with the amount of times Slyvan and Drake hooked up, I was really starting to tire of them. The sex wasn't all that different or unique each time, so for me that was a bust. It also distracted from the other couples that did hook up.

Spoiler I was rather annoyed that of course as soon as Drake finds out she's pregnant the big bad, is of course going to then target Drake. Really? So predictable!!!

This series reminds me of a low to mid-budget sci-fi series from the early 2000s. Book 1 felt like season 1, where you get to know everyone and the protagonists are mostly winning. This book certainly had that season 2 shift, where the gloss is starting to rub away from the characters and you realize they are in deep.

There are certainly some bumps with some of the inconsistencies between statements in some of the books as well as general urban fantasy sleaziness. Unfortunately, there were "sexy" parts with the villains that were used to underscore their evil. This certainly increased the discomfort compared to book 1 as it did include sex used as a tool to gain power and non-consent. As well, the werewolf scenes had more of that classic possessive nature that can get tiresome.

I would recommend this book to anyone familiar with the problematic way urban/paranormal fantasy can go. Also might be of interest to anyone who read the first book and would like to continue with the characters as it certainly answers some of the questions from book 1 and builds on the overarching narrative.
