Good plot and story, it just felt like there should be more. It ended very sharply and still left some crucial questions to be answered. Would be interested to see if there was a follow up with Chad's story. (also HOW did Jolyon get money to live...??? either I missed something or a very big plot hole).

i really enjoyed the concept of this book and what it tried to be. the dual pov over the past and present was interesting and i enjoyed the mystery of what was happening/what the end would be. unfortunately the last 1/4 of the book just fell flat for me and a lot of things were left unanswered and not in a way that you feel satisfied with an unanswered ending.

what happened with game soc and the full extent of that, i know it probably takes away the mystery but the story just completely loses all stakes after the chad reveal - especially when jolyon has barely any reaction

I mean... I liked it. It was enjoyable reading. I liked the style, even the switching back and forth between narrators/time periods didn't drive me crazy like it sometimes does. My problem is all plot-related--I don't think the stakes were quite high enough to justify everyone staying in the game. I liked the Game Soc thing that was going on, but what did it really come to? I read this ARC through Netgalley and I hope there's still some editing/tightening up to do.
I finally finished this book. I really loved the premise and about 2/3rds of the book. But it ended up being a chore to finish. It just didn’t live up to the potential
I found this book annoying to read and am surprised I took the time to finish it. I thought the idea of the story was good but I didn't like the way that it was written.
