The epilogue changed the whole story! I almost skipped it and wouldn’t have known
4.5 stars
I'm not sure how to describe this other than "sweet." It had the vibes of a cozy mystery without the pun in the title. Molly is very likable despite everyone around her thinking she was a freak and a robot. Easy target for a murder suspect, the outcast.
Though the text never outright says it, Molly is neurodivergent, so I think there's a bit of commentary there on how people who aren't neurotypical are treated in society, especially in contexts of the law. Things that are obvious to some, may not be for all.
This book wasn't quite as twisty as others I've read, but that's not a complaint. I don't need my mysteries to be completely unhinged. The Maid is definitely... hinged.
Overall, great read. Only docked a half star because the emotional impact just wasn't quiiite there.

A quirky whodunnit that didn’t capture me as much as I thought it would. This is the story of a unique character and how she gets involved in a murder investigation. While I empathized with the main character, it was really hard for me to continue reading it. I couldn’t get into it, and it felt like “well duh” toward the end. I recommend it though, as it’s a unique narrator.

some good aspects; characters are mostly 1-dimensional and some feel very stereotyped; the mystery set up is okay but then every development is very plainly stated, moves slowly, and it’s hard to be shocked; ending felt unrealistic. I liked the happy parts of the ending, though (but it’s hard to feel much for the characters because again, not a lot of depth)

4 stars for a book about a quirky heroine. Molly is a very conscientious, but eccentric, maid at a luxury boutique hotel in a large city. She is rather naive. She was raised by her recently deceased grandmother because her parents deserted her. When her grandmother was alive, Molly could go to her for an explanation of people's statements and/or facial expressions. But now Molly, who is 25, is on her own, and she has trouble judging people who might be friendly or take advantage of her.
She is cleaning a room that she thought was empty, since no one responded to her knock and "Housekeeping" announcement. But she discovers Mr. Black dead in his bed.
She is a suspect in his suspicious death. How this mystery is resolved makes for a pleasant cozy mystery with no other deaths. Also, there is no sex or bad language.
The hotel is called the Regency Grand, and the city is never identified.
This was a library display book. Every year I participate in my library's summer reading club, which has prizes. Participants are given a bingo sheet. When you complete a square, you get a ticket which you can put in various raffle boxes. One of the squares was "Read a display book."

I really dislike the way the author wrote the main character
