It’s misleading to attempt to label this as having a love triangle — though I understand that the author doesn’t have much, if any say over the blurb — so if that’s something that might put you off giving this book a try, then rest assured, it’s a straightforward Cindarella-esque story of a girl going to a ball, falling in love with a prince … and then drama, politics, and declarations of love all ending on a cliffhanger. Oh, and there’s a shoe, too, but that’s just there for the joke.

This book gives POV chapters of both the prince and the peasant (Stellon and Raewyn) and manages to keep them both fairly distinct. The other prince mentioned in the blurt is Stellon’s younger brother, whose more of an annoyance than an antagonist. The pace is quick, the plot is decently put together, and I didn’t mind either Raweyn or Stellon as characters.

However, the book spends so much time on the two of them learning how Stellon could be a better prince than it does setting up the threats to their romance, the world, the magic system, or any real politics. It’s all very surface level, but since this is the first book in a projected series, I don’t mind that too much. I just hope book two has a little more meat to it and gives a little more tension and interest.

Too slow for me. Little excitement and then major lulls.

This was an entertaining reimagining of Cinderella, with witch bargains, Fae royalty, hidden identities, conflicts and dangerous schemes.
I liked the anticipation and build up, the mystery of the two Fae Princes, and the danger from the King.
It follows the rough plot of Cinderella with the prince seeking a bride, and the FMC stumbling into his path, only to disappear mysteriously. But this has so many layers of assassin plots, elven magic, two princes enchanted by the same woman, and a hidden forbidden romance.
This has a great slow burn, where he falls first, but it definitely leaves it open for love interests to change, especially after the ending.
I am definitely wanting to read more of this series and see what is in store for Raewyn and the Princes.

Cinderella inspired fantasy romance with fae, forbidden love and dangerous bargains.

I have mixed feelings about this book. There were some parts I enjoyed, but also some parts that threw me off a little bit.

I liked Raewyn as a main character. She was independent and fierce and clearly had a hard life. Stellon, on the other hand, was unfortunately a bit boring. I liked him at the beginning of the book, but got frustrated with him (and how he didn’t realize who Raewyn was) towards the end. Pharis seemed like an interesting character with more spark and I would love to learn more about him.

The relationship between Raevyn and Stellon is described as enemies to lovers and slow burn, but they never really were enemies and their relationship was more like an insta-love.

Thank you NetGalley & Xpresso Book Tours for the ARC! Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.

This slow burn romantasy is a Cinderella retelling with hints of Ella Enchanted and a bit of ACOTAR thrown in for good measure. It was such a fun read and had so many twists and interesting surprises. I still have so many questions and am looking forward to seeing how Stellon and Raewyn get out of the predicament they find themselves in. I loved getting both of their points of view and am hoping that there is a way to make life better for both the human village and the elven lands as well. The world building was very well done and I want to learn so much more about their history and culture. Raewyn was so relatable and I could truly see how she would make a deal with her village witch to help feed her family and heal her father, only to find herself over her head in an impossible situation. Stellon was in a very difficult position, as well, and now finds himself having to make difficult decisions. I love his relationship with his sister, Mareth, and his brother, Pharis, even though Pharis has bad reputation. I’d really love to get to know Mareth better and see Pharis redeemed in the next book. And, they really need to overthrow their father. I really can’t wait for book two. I absolutely need more of these characters and this world!

This was a lovely little fairytale jaunt. Very much Cinderella vibes, except the heroine has a little more grit. Forbidden love is the trope and I have a feeling there are some secrets regarding identities to come, which has me intrigued.

Amy Patrick’s A Court Bright and Broken is a slow-burn romantasy with mild spice that introduces readers to a world of fae intrigue, forbidden love, and moral dilemmas. While it took some time for me to get fully immersed in the story, the rich world-building and compelling relationships eventually won me over, leaving me ready for the next installment.

Things of note :
While the word building is on point some of the plot points are a bit too predictable. Raewyn’s indecisiveness was frustrating at times. Her wishy-washy behavior in critical moments detracted from her otherwise strong and relatable qualities The slow burn romance is well-executed, with plenty of chemistry and intrigue.

This was a fast comfort read of a book. It’s like Cinderella or Ella Enchanted met ACOTAR had a baby. Human girl, fae prince. It feels familiar but with a twist. And so many twists it had but the one I loved was that the fmc keeps her head on her shoulders while being romanced by a fae prince and refuses to be helped by him. It was refreshing. I am very excited for the next book and the development of some of the key plots: the witch’s curse, her family, the love interest…. So much to get into.
Thanks for letting me arc read this!

Like acotar I don’t think the first prince is whom she ends up with. And I hope that is true because this one is a little too naive, desperate and a little dumb

I absolutely LOVED this so so much. An amazing retelling of the magical classic Cinderella. It was a quick, fun, easy read that I had such a good time with! I kicked my feet so much, but omg that cliffhanger! I cannot wait for the next one!

Fae romance with Cinderella insporation, the potential with this one was RIGHT THERE, but unfortunately, it just missed the mark.
The MCs are likable enough, but the romance is almost insta-lovey for the MMC, and then as much as the FMC fights against it, her turnaround seems very sudden, too. The MMC's constant worry about hiding from his father is giving immature and high school romance even though this is romantasy and he's a fae prince. The vibes are off.
2.5⭐️ because while I did think about DNFing this one, I ultimately kept going and I enjoyed it well enough that I'm curious about what could happen in the next book (personally I think she'll end up with the brother). That being said, I don't know that I'd be curious enough to actually pick up the next book.
