BEAUTIFUL WORLDBUILDING & CHARACTERS. I can’t wait for the sequel to come out in August!

I think this might be a perfect debut??? It’s SO GOOD BUY IT AND READ IT!!

The world building!!! The relationships! The friendships!!! The twists and turns!!! I am THRIVING after reading this!!!

Great world building, and I appreciate how quickly we jump into the story. We are with Tarisai for most of her life, which begins in isolation, training for some unclear upcoming task. Tarisai is then sent to compete with other kids from around the kingdom for the favor of Ekundayo, the future king. The only times this felt like a YA book to me were the attempted plot twists, but I overall enjoyed the journey.

2.5 stars

Ugh I am so disappointed :( I was really expecting to love this but I just didn’t. I still think the story was interesting I just didn’t love the execution and there were so many plot holes it became distracting by the end

The world-building in this book is amazing, and though the audiobook was great, I'd recommend the print so that you can refer to the beautiful map of all of Aritsar.
Tarisai rocks. She loves fiercely, and is just trying to find her way into a found family. If she occasionally is a little obtuse, that is forgiveable. She was raised by a rotating cast of strangers while her pathological mother was off doing her own thing, part of which involved setting Tarisai up to be a perfect pawn in her long game of revenge.
Looking forward to getting my hands on the next book!

More and more I keep finding books that are not set in the traditional Western European fantasy setting, and I have to say that I really enjoy it. The world and mythology in Raybearer is very original. Because of that, it takes a bit more time to get to understand everything, but when it clicks, it's totally worth it. I really loved the relations between the characters, be it romantic or not (the asexual admission was a very nice touch), and the story was exciting and kept me on my toes.

This was very good. The characters were strong, especially the MC. She's so good 😭😭😭. I enjoyed her dynamics with the other characters and am looking forward to seeing morein the next book. I thought the world was beautiful and intricate and rich adn so well fleshed out. I love the West African inspired mythology.

Ngl tho it took me so long to read this bc I just think that it has such a terrible cover 😅😅😅. But I'm glad I persevered through that bc it really was good.
