I found the first half of this book quite slow. It’s a lot of world building but it’s interesting. The magic system is a lot to take in so I understand why it took half the book to get it all in there. The last half was a faster pace. I don’t find any of the mmc holding my interest. I am quite intrigued with Aflora and what’s going on with her. I’m keen to see how that develops. I’m not big on “secrets” that span multiple books so I’m quite irritated that I read this book and it gave zero answers. The writing is good, the story is there, but the secrets and slow pace keep drawing me out of the story. I will continue bc I am intrigued enough to want to know what’s going on but if there’s no answers by the end of book 2 it will be a DNF series for me.

I loved this series. This book does a good job preparing you for what is coming while leaving enough unknowns you don't know what is coming.

I don't have too much to say about this book, truthfully. It's just the beginning, and things are being set up for something bigger.
While waiting for her date in the human realm, she was bit by a De@th Blood Fae without her permission. This ended up mating her to him unwillingly. If he bit her a second time, the bond would be unbreakable. Until then, she was stuck going to Midnight Fae Academy so she could be monitored for any dark powers that could form. Her Elemental Fae powers would also be blocked. Essentially, she could be powerless. For one reason or another, though, that was far from the truth. She gained powers, alright, and more powerful than many of the students at the school.
Shade, Zeph, and Kols all reluctantly have to find a way to keep her powers a secret from the council, or they'll "exterminate" her. After she's betrayed, though, can she escape that fate?
