I really enjoyed this story so I was surprised to see several bad reviews on Tik Tok. I loved the idea of creepy witches at a boarding school and a new generation trying to right things, however, that’s not what happened. The witches weren’t actually witches and it ended up being a murder mystery. I was thrilled with the ending and the idea that mental illness was an easy out for the main character being a murderer. It all seemed too “easy.”
All in all, I enjoyed this a great deal but the plot took too hard of a left.

I don't read a lot of this genre and I especially don't gravitate towards dark academia. So, as a blend of thriller and private school I enjoyed this more than I expected. I appreciate that Lee included discussions of mental health, therapy, treatment, white privilege, wealth privilege, and queerness in the larger predictable plot. I feel that many dark academia novels miss that opportunity. With that, I still don't think this genre is something I find very intriguing.

I was so close to DNFing this. It just draaaggged in the first half. Glad I stuck it out. It definitely got unhinged in the last 20% but man. It was rough for a while.
