"I’m like the lotus flower. I have bloomed from muddy waters. I may look beautiful at first glance, but if you see where I’ve come from, you won’t find me quite as alluring."

though i couldn't connect with literally any character, i'm surprised with how much i ended up enjoying this. roberts' writing is simple, but it simply worked perfectly here.

I saw that a lot of people shelved this as a What-have-I-just-read book. I will have to have such a shelf, too.
I don’t advise reading this if you aren’t in a certain passive-lethargic state of not caring to your surroundings. It just gets to you. It creeps on you. Like a spider, climbing on your shoulder, hanging on your soft hair—Ugh, look at me trying to appease to the aesthetic sense.

It’s about Scarlet, the stepdaughter of a sexual deviant father that is into power plays. She returns home to revenge the death of her innocence, on a case based on her family’s indifference towards her, as a vulnerable teenager that no one believed when crying that the stepdad was touching her inappropriately. She is accompanied by Reid, (another alpha male stereotype, but which is much better representented than it is in the usual Alpha Dark romances.) the one that acts as her personal pimp. (You’ll understand if you read the book).

I can’t say too much because it will spoil the thrill of the plot.

Over all, it was exactly what it says it is: a dark, twisted story that needs precaution and to be approached careful and with attention.

Obviously this book is supposed to be psychologically disturbing and whilst I understood that, I still found it hard not to skip a few pages. The unique plot was well written but I did find the ending was slightly rushed. The main character had all these things she wanted to achieve and it would have been nice to experience the fallout a bit more. It can be triggering due to heavy themes of child abuse, violence and sexual abuse etc.

That was really messed up. A bit too dark for my liking but Jaimie is an amazing writer, and boy can she writes! I love her work so far ! I can’t praise her enough

This was a wild ride

5 Stars

Something about morally grey characters doing horrible shit in the name of revenge makes me automatically give it five stars. Cuz yeah two wrongs don't make a right but it sure as fuck makes a book entertaining

TW: Rape, Death, Abuse

This book is a tough read. It's sick, it's raw, and deliciously twisted. Scarlet isn't always easy to like, heck she doesn't like herself, and sometimes she's downright despicable, but man if this book didn't have me rooting for her! Let's back up. Scarlet was abused as a child. To say Scarlet has daddy issues is the understatement of the century. Her dad rapes her starting at 14 years old. She was the unwanted child in a way, and she pays for it. Her sister and mother don't believe her. They all have their reasons, but that doesn't change it's fucked up. Only she gets to see the evil inside of him. He ruins her.

In her early 20s she ends up, well like the blurb says. She'll take what she wants when she wants it. She gets power and she uses it. After all when she was a teen all power was stripped from her, and it twists her. Ultimately though she just wants revenge on those that hurt her, and she WILL GET IT. If you ask me, and probably anyone with a heart, she deserves her revenge. I wanted them to pay for what they did to her. They get no sympathy from me. But it takes her down a dark path, and there is more twisted shit going on than she knows. Some happiness does come through the book, but mostly it's just twisted sick obsessions and pain. And those obsessions can prove deadly.

I don't want to give too much away so sorry if i'm being vague. The book is fast-paced. It had me wanting to read so much faster than I actually can, I didn't want to stop reading, though at times I had to take a breather. It had me thinking hard at times. My emotions went all over the place, from aroused, to rooting for her with a grin on my face (questioning my sanity here), to crying, to shock and feeling like my insides were being squeezed. This book will make you feel dirty but you won't be able to get clean no matter how hard you try.

The writing flowed nicely and the characters were well written. I either loved them or loved to hate them. Scarlet is so much more layered than at first glance (and she has good in her). She may be twisted, but she was made, not born, that way. She's only twisted because she's human, so very human, and has went through so much hell that no one, especially a child, should ever have to go through. I just want to hug and protect her, let her cry and tell her it will all be okay. It won't be okay though, this book has chewed me up and spit me out.

I related to her feelings in ways through tore at my heart. I haven't went through what she has but I resonated with some of her feelings. The shutting off of emotions, or thinking that one has anyway, and she became my baby. You know those characters, they become your children.

This book has complex and well written characters and plot. It has strong messages and will make you think. It'll also shatter your heart.

This book can be hard to read, require tissues, and may shatter your soul, but if you think you can handle it or decide to give it a shot I do highly recommend it, as long as you are in a good head-space and have the tissues close. This book isn't for everyone. I recently finished this (a few hours ago as of writing this) and pieces of the puzzle are still falling into place...and I really wish they weren't.

Love does not live in this book. Only dark, twisted, and sick obsessions thrive here.

You. Have. Been. Warned!

Holy shitballs, what a book!!! Dark, disturbing and cannot put downable.

"I once fought against the monsters that came. Now, I welcome them. Now, I lure them into my trap."

In this story revenge is the goal, sex is the weapon and no one is off limits!!!

What was once a weakness has now become a strength. If the past has taught Scarlet anything, it is that Sex is an extremely effective weapon. One that she does not hesitate to use, exacting her revenge, not only on her abuser but on all those who failed her to protect her.

Siren isn't what I'd call a comfortable read. It shocked me, pushed at my boundaries, twisted me up, and still, I wanted more. I love the unique and original, and Siren is that! There are no warm fuzzies, red roses or romance within these pages. What you'll find is real, raw and in your face.

Jaimie Roberts caught me off guard with this story, something new at every turn and that ending?Wow......I so didn't see that coming. Loved it!

Unadulterated, authentic, and brutal story telling. I have shed a few tears at a few points in the story. The factor that made me adore this book was, a) All victims don't have to act reluctant, unwilling, and innocent. Victims of abuse can develop an unhealthy relationship with abuser. b) Victims can enjoy pleasure with their abusers. Many romances don't capture and convey it in bold letters. I am damn sure this book could make real victims to acknowledge and make peace with those feelings.

There is only a small portion which I couldn't accept in this story-telling. The blurb says that this woman Scarlet is going to be vengeful, taking control, going to be a bitch, badass, and total slut to get what she wants, that doesn't happen anywhere along the way in the story. Scarlet doesn't have any agency in the book, and any agency she thinks she has is totally an illusion. One way this storytelling is effective is as it lets us see the emotional side of Scarlet, but the story blurb was totally misleading. She is shown to be repeatedly abused, manhandled, emotionally and physically used, and there isn't truly a portion where she enjoys the taste of truly being a bitch. If taking vengeance is called ruthless, bitchy and extraordinary, I guess that is setting a low bar on how evil people could be. Apart from that annoying fact, this book is brilliantly executed, and man I enjoyed what she served to her family.
