Insane to be reading this in 2023. When I found out when it was written I kept pausing to double check because it felt like an exact description word for word of the genocide currently unfolding in Gaza right now. Clearly Israel uses the same playbook over and over (as Chomsky and Pappe point out several times). Excellent, heartbreaking and important read. My only wish would be to have a Palestinian voice featured (or a female voice) but if it takes two white male voices to make the world open its eyes to Palestine, so be it.

I really liked the structure of this collection, even though it took me a lot of focus to get through each chapter. A lot of the book focuses on the 2007-09 war in Gaza, which I hadn't heard about much until reading this, while also speaking more broadly to the United States' involvement with Israel and the hypocrisy of both government when it comes to resistance v. terrorism. These topics feel incredibly prescient in the context of the genocide happening now, and really enforce that ground invasion and destruction of Gaza was always the plan, none of what we're seeing right now is new.
Graphic: Religious bigotry, War, Violence, Physical abuse, and Islamophobia

Tdlr: good soup
It is what it says it is- a compilation of interviews/articles/essays detailing reflections from Pappe and Chomsky on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict up to 2010. That being said, having a contextual understanding of the events from different perspectives (documentaries, lectures, and interviews) will be helpful in critically reading the back and forth dialogue and multitude of references made throughout this book (else it will go in one eye out the other as some chapters did for me lol). With context, I better understood the political and cultural landscape of the Clinton to Obama eras, which I knew little of prior to reading. Overall, as an American gen Z, interested in the truths of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, US bipartisan foreign policy, and the devastating impact of US hegemony in modern world history and today, I feel that any Gen Zs who have interest in scholarship and historiography on any of the aforementioned, will find this an impactful read and feel called to action- in particular- by Chomsky’s words.

Damn, this is a sad read. Progroms initiated by the Zionist Israelis. Today Nethanyu and his acolytes are rewriting history to read Palestinians do not exist. What is happening today in Gaza has been going on for years with the approval of the US govt. Today the horrifics inflicted upon the Gazans are for the world to watch in horror. That the Jews suffered in the holocaust but are indiscreetly causing genocide. Talk about ironies.
Today the Singaporean govt issued a statement admonishing the Isreali Ambassador for his Facebook comments that states Israel appears in the Koran several times but not Palestine. Israel is surely losing friends around the world for rewriting history like many authoritarian govts around the world and especially China.
