So here's the deal. The worldbuilding is genuinly great, the system is well thought out, there's a decent plot and well-thought out progression.

BUT

The protagonist is even stupider than in the first book. He does not read a room, makes rash stupid decision for the hell of it, does not realize his responisibilites and seems to have forgotten every skill he developed as a biker enforcer hardguy in his previous life. This is aggrevating to a reader.

To add insult to injury, quite literally in this case, every interaction with other people is either insults or disparaging remarks towards him. This simpleton would benefit from some genuine human interactions but every single person, including those that serve him and/or are saved from fates worse than deathby him, is treating him like shit and talks like playground bullies. To call this bad writing is an insult to all other mediocre writers out there, this is seriously hack-level inept writing. I am wonder whether the auther has had a genuine adult conversation or interaction in his life. His books sure don't reflect it. I managed to tough it out for two books but enough is enough. This series, and this author end here for me.

Amusing

This was an interesting read. I don't feel like it had as much to offer as previous books, but Montana had some growth. I am now very interested in how magic works in this world, and what makes Montana different. He seems to be collecting a lot of people (or beings) that raised my eyebrow.

The previous book was all about a journey from one city to another.
This is all about a prison break, which also happens to be a dungeon run.

Funny thing is, after book 2 ends, I was expecting this book to go in a very different direction and it felt a bit weird that we're doing this. But hey, this is Montana we're talking about, right? How can anything be simple with this lovable idiot.

So, time to get his hands dirty; and his legs; and his body; and his beard; and his... you get the idea. This dude goes through the worst and most unhygienic things in all of LitRPG books I've read. And therein lies the funny thing. Whenever there are super powerful OP characters in a story, sometimes it devolves into a power fantasy and you feel like you want to step in the shoes of the hero. But not here. So many times I thought, I'm so glad that's not me, over the course of this book. And therein lies the magic of this book.

I love Montana, I love Nikolai and I love their contentious relationship. Still laugh out loud funny while delivering on satisfying action. But Nikolai is right, Montana is so stupid lol
