I don't usually read books by candidates. I prefer to read books at the end of their career talking about what they've learned. In book, Biden shares some very tender and personal moments. I loved learning about his relationships with his family and especially the bond between his two sons. I think all those things speak to his character as a father and as a human. When I picked up this book, that's what I thought (based on the title) it would be solely about. It was also about everything Biden did over the course of that year. Lots of name dropping, political experience, etc. That part tired me, but I think it's because I don't read this type of book often. I do leave it feeling like I know more about Joe Biden as a person and a human being, but also disappointed and feeling that the title was a little misleading.
Really really good book. Joe Biden is a family man, a man of faith, and one of purpose. All of that comes across in this book. His book is beyond touching, it speaks to how important your loved ones are, and the people you touch when you show you truly care about him.
Would Biden have won the election? I’m not sure, I’m not sure anyone really knows with the Russian interference. And he was never someone Putin liked, so I’d imagine the hacking would have been just as bad.
What I do know, is that Beau was something special. Following a bit of his career I can guarantee he was going to be a force in the Democratic Party. It wasn’t just sad for his family, he was a loss for all of us and the country.
Biden is exactly who you think he is, someone who loves his family and his country. He’s a leader among men and we don’t have many of those left in politics.

I love Joe Biden even more after listening to this book. We need more politicians like him. We need more people like him. Highly recommend audible as he reads it himself.
I learned a LOT about Joe Biden in this book. I enjoyed the stories he shared of his rise in politics, his family traditions and his time in the White House with President Obama. There were a few sections with a lot of details regarding actions/policy he worked on and I felt they were not necessary...but I'm sure some other people would enjoy those parts.
Biden narration made the story more affecting and heartfelt.
While I felt that, at times, the book got weighed down a little in terms of politics, it usually righted itself with the emotional story of his son, his fight, and the time after his passing. The last third of the book brought tears to my eyes in several places.
As disappointed as I was that he did not run, after reading this, I finally get it. I couldn't put this book down.
