Liss MacCrimmon just can't stop herself from getting involved when two women die at a cozy/mystery convention. Of course, SHE knows better than the police...
I have read the other books in this series. They're not at the top of my list, but I've eventually found my way to all of them.
There isn't anything remotely Scots about this book.
I think just about everyone in this book is a little too ... much. Liss is too meddlesome. The blogger is too mean to be believable. They're all just a little overdone, in my opinion. There are too many exclamation points! And there were too many characters bouncing around to keep straight.
It's an okay read, but not a keeper.

Definitely on the “cozy” side of mysteries. Despite the title, Scottish content is marginal. Entertaining.
I think I only liked this installment because I liked the first four so much. I enjoyed the premise of this book--taking place during a mystery writers convention-- but agree with other reviewers that too much back story was needed to explain the killer's motive. Not much character development and not much Scotch. Overall, I like the Liss McCrimmon character, but soon readers will need more from her to satisfy the nagging feeling that she really ought to know better by now.
I picked this one up on a whim at the library. It is the fifth in the series, I have not read the previous four. I had no trouble jumping into the middle of the series. Apparently, the town of Moosetookalook, Maine is gaining a reputation as a real life Cabot Cove. It has attracted a convention of cozy mystery writers and their fans. This has also brought along a woman with a cruel blog who enjoys exposing the negatives about people, and she is threatening to write an expose on Moosetookalook itself. When she ends up dead, Liss begins her own investigation. This was a cute, fun read. However, I wasn't crazy about the ending. I felt like the clues just weren't there for the reader to cleverly solve the who-dun-it.
Yup, now I remember why I quit this series. Liss is the problem. She's obnoxious.
I enjoyed this cozy mystery. The main character can be annoying to others around her, but that is part of what makes it so realistic. There are a large number of interesting supporting characters in this novel as well. This is the fifth book in the series, but the first one that I have read. While there are references back to events from previous books, I had no trouble coming in part-way through the series. I will be reading more from this author when I am in the mood for a cozy mystery.
