I really enjoyed this book, and the other two in this series by Grace Lin. I like how the smaller stories interwoven into the larger text informed the story as a whole.

A beautiful, detailed book. A hundred stories within a story that teaches us forgiveness. I absolutely loved Where the Moon Meets the Mountain, and Linn delivers a book with the magical same feeling, but a whole new experience. Our main character is at first a grumpy little boy, who is hard to like but we still have a soft spot for. As he spends time at the seemingly “cursed” inn he meets a variety of even more lovable characters that share stories and solve each other’s problems. As an educator, while reading this I thought it would be perfect to teach mythology and Chinese culture to younger students, an ideal chapter book for strong readers in grades 4-7, and a great addition to any teacher or parent’s bookshelf. The author’s note at the end is not to be skipped ✨

My 3rd quarter read aloud. I loved Lin's book Where the Mountain Meets the Moon!

If I had not read Grace Lin's other books first I think I would have enjoyed this one more. This one was a little more difficult to follow. I still love Lin's style of interweaving folk tales with a main story.
This story just didn't grab me as much as Where the Mountain Meets the Moon. The main characters were less likable and the main story was less magical. Still an excellent read.

Not as compelling as the first book, but this is a nice addition to the series. More about emotions and how children learn their habits from their parents even if they don’t like those habits. Weaving different stories together to make sense of a runaway boy, the missing moon, and a toad this book is nice, but I don’t think that I would pay for it something you are going to want to get from the library. I will read the third, but I'm getting it from half price, or the library.

I enjoyed it, but it wasn't as good as Where the Mountain Meets the Moon. I do, however, love the author's style.
