A solid 4 stars. Joan and Emmie’s special relationship kinda reminds me of Mamaw & me back when I was in college & early adulthood. She was always interested in my busy life and I was always happy to absorb any words of wisdom she wanted to pass along to me. This was my second epistolary novel and i really enjoyed it!

I love a well done correspondence story. The two personalities jump out of their letters, painting an easy, vivid picture of the women and the world. In part two the transition is a little abrupt to a third person point of view, but oh my heart. Totally worth it and amazing. What a friendship. I was overflowing with feeling for the last 30 minutes. And I want to make everyone of these meals.

A great read if you love food and female friendship.

I thought the relationship between Joan and Imogen was really sweet. Their letters were really low stakes but their friendship grew in a natural and compelling way. I cried a lot at the ending.

I found the food discussion kind of hard to relate to. It's interesting to see how our relationships with diverse food has changed since the 60s but the way it was portrayed in the book felt kind of funny to me.

This was a book that I wasn’t sure I was actually going to like, but I ended up really loving it. I loved the way it was written through letters and how they formed such a sweet bond. It was an easy read too so it was a much needed palette cleanser.
