As someone who notoriously hates reading classics, this was fine. It's easily read, and if you're a fan of the Peter Pan movies, like I was as a child, reading this is very nostalgic. I loved the 2003 live-action with Jeremy Sumpter, so reading some lines like "Strike true" and "the cleverness of me" made me want to rewatch. Overall, I had a decent time reading this, but I'd never reread it.
Side note, this line confuddled me so much:
"...some unsteady fairies had to climb over him on their way home from an orgy." excuse me??

Kidding, I don't even know why I said that.
This was such a surprise, I couldn't fathom that my childhood obsession was something so twisted! I mean, it's still sweet, but it's really dark what really happens to the kids' heads, and the ending is like aaaaaaaaaaaaaa mai.
It was very enjoyable, furthermore with my Lello Librarie edition.

Uuuuuuuuuuuuummm.... This book.. Was great and not great. It was very fantastical but it kinda.. Grated against me. Idk. They talked about murdering with such ease it just felt a little.. Well, grating. Its the only way I can describe it.
How can I not, on principle, love Peter Pan. I mean damn if he wasn't a cutie in the movie when I was little lol. And who didn't love Neverland? This book describes some of the adventures that are in the movies, but with a much more serious tone. Thus reminding us again of how disney can fluff a classic. But I didn't realize that Pan was so carefree especially with murder.
I also got confused with the time flow. I mean I get that in Neverland you never get old. But they hardly talked of how long the kids were on the island before they just said they'd been there for years.
This book had some parts I did enjoy. Some of the stories they discussed and adventures they went on were good and exciting. Tinker Bell was kinda an irritating character, with not much contribution to the story other than being a brat. Oh and the part about them flying to get to the island was really uncomfortable. Describing the way Peter acts. How he kinda tortured them with the strange says they used to survive flying for so long. Idk it just felt really cruel.
About 70 pages from the end, pretty much the two chapters after the Darlings decide to leave the island, I kinda zoned out and really couldn't tell you much of what was happening. But closer to the end I got back into it and was mostly content.
I couldn't really tell if I was missing an analogy or not about Mr. Darling being inside Nana's kennel, but they were talking as if he really was living in it... Just... What.
And the narration gets weird with hating Mrs. Darling, and talking about how the kids are basically ungrateful snobs. And then they just decide to adopt 6 random kids they brought home. Cuz ya know.. Fuck you.
Idk. I just don't know about this book.

A classic story that really does a great job of capturing the magic of childhood. I was surprised at times at a few of the detours into random things not truly kid oriented, but I was very impressed with the language and diction and how often I thought to myself "Wow, what a great sentence!" Peter Pan will always represent that childish idea that life can stay as one big game of pretend and that nobody ever has to grown up, and I find it appropriate that Peter Pan never has to stop being that no matter how many generations of "Wendys" come and go.
