4 povs like watchhing a season of keeping up with thw kardashians kinda slow

How has the CW not picked up this series as a show yet? So much drama. Definitely held my attention and I’m glad the author did chapters with different POVs. I only wish Jeff had some because his character fell flat for me. Nina did as well. I just couldn’t get a read on her. Beatrice may have been my favorite over all. Can’t wait for the next book.

What a fun concept that just kind of got bogged down into too many characters and storylines.

American Royalty is an alternate timeline contemporary novel that presents what would have happened if America established a new regency instead of a democracy after the revolution. Well we would of course have a totally drama filled royal family! The novel follows Beatrice, the oldest daughter and heir to the throne after a recently enacted rule allowing women to inherit over sons. Then we have the wild child second princess, Samantha. Then Samantha’s ‘commoner’ BFF, ….whos name I have forgotten. Then we have lower royalty Daphne who is determined to climb to the top.

That’s a lot of ‘thens’. The chapters are short which make it easy to read but unfortunately leave us pretty disconnected from between the storylines when we are constantly swapping. Beatrice’s romance was the only one that felt like it was more deeply written. Daphne and Commoner BFF vaguely fight over a character that could be replaced by a cardboard cut out. Samantha’s is an insta-love that makes a really big deal out of making out in a coat room.

But anyways, I never really felt like I got to know any of the characters well enough, even from their own perspectives. Beatrice and Daphne were the most interesting since they fell into such easy to follow tropes that you could fill in the blanks but BFF and Samantha didn’t feel rounded so I cared very little about any of their drama.

This book could have very much used a singular focus and I think it would have been great. High drama, fun setting, interesting character set ups but as it was, all of the stories felt like a quarter of one that never really made a whole.

I was excited to pick this up and had high hopes for it. Unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to my expectations.

I really enjoyed reading Beatrice's POV and about her relationship with her love interest. It was the most genuine and well laid out romance. Samatha and Teddy felt forced since there was barely any interaction between the two. I really disliked Daphne and found myself skimming through her chapters for the majority of the book. That said, I will probably keep reading the series to see where this goes.

What a fun read! (Total escapist reading) On to book two.

Fun book! A great light read (or listen in my case), perfect for letting your mind wander on a walk or while doing the dishes.

Exactly what I was looking for in this book–light, fluffy, and a quick read

This was trash, but an absolutely trash I binge read and loved. I mean, it reminded me to the tv show "The Royals", which of course I also binge watched and loved. I think the one I like the most is Sam, I usually like the troubled ones because there's always a rason. But I like all the characters in their own way BECAUSE THE DRAMA. I love a good drama and this has a mix between Gossip Girl, The Selection and The Royals and I cannot wait to continue with it. So thank you for the people who nominated this for the GR 2019 Choice Awards because otherwise I wouldn't have found out about this book.

I got really, really sucked into this book. The audio performance was great and I was gasping and exclaiming aloud while listening as the layers of the story began to reveal themselves. The love stories and development felt natural. But two things: 1) I did not like the ending. I felt it didn’t really resolve any of the storylines I spent so much time investing in. 2) I know the selling point was that this was a reimagining of America if there’d been a monarchy, but this could’ve been set anywhere. It was more about the characters than the reimagined historical premise. I personally still really enjoyed it, but it was not what I was expecting in that regard.
