I can’t do it anymore….I was only able to read 60% and had to stop. This book is just filled with stuff and more stuff. They over complicated it and had too many points to make this anything meaningful.
Basically every pointer or piece of advice goes something like this: “To address X simply think of these 3 things……but before we do that we need to look at these 4 ideas and each of those points have their own list of things that we must review. This continues almost every chapter. Over and over and over again until they have beat you to death with useless information.
I first noticed that I starting skimming chapters just to get to the summary at the end and then eventually I just lost complete interest and came here to write a review.
From a therapist POV it will be much more effective for somebody to work on managing emotions through therapy or skill building and then go out and practice these hard conversations with an open mind and willingness to learn and improve. Don’t waste your time or money on this book.

Another therapist recommendation, this time for moving on, and it's a good one.
Written for asshole overly dominant managers that needs to learn to listen and delegate.
I think this is a good book for folks who are beginners and new to dialogue and facilitating hard conversations. I will say that this book is so binary!! “He/ she, his/ hers” were all throughout this book! Would love to see more gender inclusivity here.
I have read a few books on this topic and this is the best of them. Whatever the type of relationship we all need the skills to handle crucial conversations.
I knew, even before I'd finished reading this book, that I was going to read it again. There's so many great ideas in here, and I'm sure I didn't really grok them all the first time. And even when the book discusses tactics that seem more obvious or like common-sense, the context of a greater framework for these conversations sheds new light on the tactics. Also, the writing is just funny enough to keep things refreshing and engaging.
