This is a must-read. Or rather a must-listen-to. Get the audiobook if you haven't already.
I was surprised to find this book is only ten years old. The writing style is so bad, I thought it was written in the 80’s. Regardless, most of the tools offered are important, relevant, and useful.
I skipped almost all of the vignettes; there are so many but the point was already clear. Seemed like unnecessary fluff.
Finally, I strongly disagree with their approach to dealing with sexual harassment. Have a private conversation with your harasser? Tell them you want to hear their side? They’ll probably stop once you’ve talked? The authors are tone deaf here.

I feel like I could’ve read the last chapter and been fine without reading the whole book.
Filled with clear and practical tips on how to bring something tough up.
The book looked at decades of research into how great leaders addressed problems vs those who create bigger issues.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy for girl bosses and I respect it. Really valuable introduction to bettering interpersonal relationship skills for professional environments. I do think they over complicated some simple concepts. It just makes it more difficult for readers to actually implement the skill. More case study literature review vibe than relatable tools. Still a great resource for those wanting to grow their leadership and conversation skills!
Best quote-
“You don’t get angry when you’re confident. You get angry when you’re scared.”

Terrific! Most people should read and then practice the principles, behaviors, and skills described in this book. Simply capitalizing on the tools and concepts in one chapter (Make It Safe) added immeasurably to my relationships with others, and the rest of the book is just as good. I think so highly that I went for the "train-the-trainer" workshop, and now provide training in these techniques, as well as those of the sequel, "Crucial Confrontations."

Helpful if you’ve ever found yourself in a situation where you need to communicate with another human being.
