This was a well done fracturing with some very clever moments. It just didn’t hit as well for me for some reason.

This was a solid 'retelling' that I've wanted to read for awhile. I enjoyed the sci-fi-ish world, which is not as prevalent a locale when you're looking at a retelling based off a fantasy story.
Essie was a fun Snow White, and a much tougher one than we usually encounter. I felt the story got a bit less...original? feeling once we got back to the palace and were waiting to 'take back what was hers', but there were some darker elements I didn't see coming that kept me surprised and engaged with the characters.
Random thoughts: I loved that her 7 dwarfs were the androids she'd built! That was clever. One thing that I kind of wanted answered (not that it needed to be) was did she pick her alias "Essie" because it played off of the word Princess (like Princ-essie)?
Very enjoyable book!

It's freaking Snow White with ROBOTS. Who doesn't love that?? This book was fantastic. Characters were real, relatable, and believable. Story was crazy and unique and, lets face it, the robots were the best part.
Sci-fi Snow White, and I loved it. Essie is such a great character and I loved watching her fight for justice for herself and her planet.
While retold faery tales are some of my favorite to read, this one about Snow White has got to be one of the better ones!
Princess Snow is missing from her home planet, and her father, King Matthais riles his world up looking for those that kidnapped her. Far away on an ice planet known best for mining, Essie stitches up mining drones' code and fights to earn her credits. But when another out-of-worlder crashes by her mining colony, things start to unravel quickly.
Essie is kidnapped and taken from the home she's known for the past 8 years by Dane, who is willing to do anything and everything in order to rescue his father, who was taken captive around the time Princess Snow disappeared.
As all the pieces start to come together, Essie and Dane start to realize that there is more to this whole thing than was originally thought. More than they, or anyone else could have put together.

I am pretty sure this is the first Snow White retelling I have ever read (seen a lot of Cinderella, but not Snow White for some reason). It is most certainly the first sci-fi retelling of Snow White I have read, which intrigued me since I am still waiting for Meyer's Winter to come out. Let me say that, while I do not like it as much as the Lunar Chronicles, I will be seeking out more of Lewis' novels.
Essie is not the typical princess. She is not refined, she has a terrible vocabulary, and she tends to be covered in grim. Her skills are programming, robotic engineering, and fighting. And unlike most YA novels, she is not obsessed with the idea of love. Dane is an absolutely lovely hero who, once he knows her past, is willing to sacrifice everything for her happiness. Unlike the current trend of super alpha heroes, Dane lets Essie determine the speed of their relationship, giving her the time to feel right about it.
Stitching Snow is not necessarily for lovers of hard core sci-fi. There is little description of the way anything in this world actually, physically works. I preferred this, as it kept the story from being bogged down with concepts I didn't understand, though I would have liked for there to have been more description in general.
In the end, what I loved most was the relationships between the Essie, Dane, and the drones. Dimwitt (Dopey) was my absolute favorite with Cusser (Grumpy) coming in a close second. It was also nice to read a story absent all the cliches which have riddled YA fiction in the past year (love triangles, heroine who thinks she's not that pretty but some how everyone wants her, ect.). That said, it may not be for everyone. There is a lot of violence, with the opening scene having Essie in a cage fight, as well as inferences of horrible things from Essie childhood. Still, I found it an enjoyable read and recommend it.

This is SUCH a fun story! I haven't seen much about it around the blogosphere and I cannot figure out why. (Maybe I'm just not looking in the right spots?) Because Ms. Lewis' skill with writing a scifi fairytale retelling is great! I loved that I could see the elements of Snow White, yet she created an entire new world and story of her own. It worked for me. Fabulously!
The characters are awesome. Y'all know how I love to gush about characters, and Essie and Dane are worth gushing over! Essie especially, as she starts out with so many secrets and it takes time for her to even trust the reader with sharing them. The more I got to know her, the more inside her head I got, the more I wanted to jump in the pages and make things better for her. She quickly grew in my heart and I couldn't wait for her happy ending to arrive because she so deserves happiness in her life! She acts all tough (and she is), but she's also got a tender heart. Her scars are many and it takes a bit for her to trust anyone.
Which Dane certainly didn't help! He blundered through his choices (for good reasons, but that doesn't exonerate him completely) and messes with Essie's safe (or is it?) little world. I admit to being a bit frustrated with him at first, just like Essie. (He, too, has a lot of secrets.) But it wasn't long until he endeared himself and watching his interactions with her thereafter was great fun. These two most certainly fit well together and we get to enjoy watching them figure this out. :)
I can't forget to mention Dimwit! And the other six drones as well, but Dimwit takes center stage. He made me laugh! I loved that there was more to his idiocy than first meets the eye. He ends up being pretty significant to the plot, surprising everyone!
The world-building is great, the mysteries and secrets that must be figured out are sufficiently intriguing, the romance is adorable, and I loved that it's a stand-alone. All in all, this a wonderful story! Ms. Lewis has officially been added to my favorite authors list! :)

I really enjoyed the first 2/3 of this book. There was action and adventure and intriguing characters. Admittedly, there were only two characters the reader ever got to know. But I enjoyed them. While I wished there would have been better descriptions to help me envision the worlds the characters visited, I still found myself getting lost in the story.
What really killed this book for me was the last 1/3 when Essie turned into a selfish jerk. The way she treated Dane after was inexcusable. It made me severely dislike Essie and even Dane for being such a doormat.
Then, the ending also irritated me. While I loved loved loved that Essie was such a strong character, the author didn't make Dane equally strong. As I turned the last page, I was confused what Dane's role was outside of supporting Essie.
3 Stars.

Plus, the author didn't show very many qualities in Essie that convinced me that she would make a good Queen. So her ending wasn't all that convincing or happy. Essie only tinkering in her free time? What?!?3 Stars.
