I can understand why someone else would like this book which is why I rated it 3 stars. However, I personally found it to be very boring.

When Grimalkin dies earlier than his destined time without using any of his 9 lives — so he is given the chance to live nine lives as a ghost cat —we experience history through his eyes over 12 decades — ending in 2022. He returns to his cat life eight times, seemingly at random intervals of time, for just a day each time.
This is an enchanting, cozy book set up so that each chapter is its own story but we follow the same main character Grimalkin -- makes it easy to pick up or take a break— Grimalkin is loveable, curious and endearing. We immediately get attached to the cat and his adventures through time — this story is a fun, quick, cozy, heartwarming, imaginative read.
Thank you to Netgalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for this ARC. This is my honest review.

Thats it! no more tiktok books! 🙅🏻♀️🚫 I really tried to connect and understand what’s happening in this book but I think it’s the lack of cohesion in plot, awful pacing and the overly descriptive narration that kept me losing the point. This would have been a good concept, a ghost cat living with different people and exploring their lives in progressing decades with historical facts mixed in. I think someone from the UK would appreciate the culture references mentuoned here including the accents used in some of the dialogues. Grimalkin as a cat was okay, I wish the author gave him a smarter and more witty voice to make him more likeable. The humans though felt flat, their actions lack context, thay have no backstory or any memorable traits whatsoever. There were some footnotes which apparently are more interesting than the actual story. Well I guess this is it, I finally found my least favorite book of 2025 and let me save you your time and tell you that there are better cat books out there than this. But if you did enjoy it then I’m still glad for you. Storygraph’s personal reccomendations warned me about this book and I didn’t listen so here I am. From someone who finds it hard and rarely dnfs a book, I really wanted to dnf this a 100 pages in but ended up speed reading the rest of the chapters. I felt uneasy, like I was just forcing it. I felt my brain turning into mush. I also tried reading four star reviews on fable and I guess there were some who found some joy in it, I on the otherhand just got more confused and unhappy. Still, no regrets, as a reader, I’m taking this as a learning experience- it made me get to know my limits as this is almost became my first DNF this year. I learned to stick to my gut and stop torturing myself. To know my preferences better for my own sake! and for my own reading future Amen! ahhuhuhuhuh! 😭❤️🩹🙏

Grimalkin wakes one morning in 1902 in his Edinburgh flat, not knowing that today will be his last day. But cats have 9 lives, and over the next 120 years, Grimalkin will visit his flat again as a ghost cat, experiencing the changes across the century.
This was such a laid back, easy and sweet listen. It was narrated by the author, and I could tell how much he enjoyed writing this.
The concept was so interesting: Grimalkin returned to his flat approximately ever 15 years or so, experiencing things such as the first and second world wars, the moon landing, the 1990s - and Friends - and modern life in 2022.
I really liked Grimalkin's character - he went from being a fairky upright Victorian cat, to a really quite liberal modern cat, and through him the social changes across the century were portrayed.
He only got one day during each visit, making them short snapshots more than anything, but the book flowed well.
For all that this was a simple tale, it was cosy, heartwarming and enjoyable, and definitely one I'd recommend, especially in-between heavier books.
