A calmly paced adventure with moments of suspense. Enjoyed it, but wasn't blown away. Lovely characters!

This is one of the times I wish you could give partial ratings on here. I'd give this a 4.5.

Amani is a 17 year old girl who's grown up shooting guns her whole life. She's an orphan being raised by her Uncle, and she wants nothing more than to leave everything behind, and start a new life in a far-away city.

Jin is a mysterious foreigner that Amani meets at a shooting contest. She's dressed as a boy, and calls herself the Blue-Eyed Bandit.

The book follows them as they try to escape from soldiers who are trying to capture Jin, who's wanted as a traitor.

What a magical world that Hamilton created. I loved the diversity of the environment she produced, the mix of old world magic and the grit of the more modern world. She wove mythological legends and lore into a world that held me tight and had me glued to the pages. I adored Amani because she struggled with the world she lived in and where she belonged in it. That made me connect with her. Then there is Jin, dashing and just wild. I fell for him just as hard as I did for the world I was lost in.

The adventure was alluring, the action brilliant and non-stop, and the romance (I loved that it wasn't the main focus but a lovely aspect that I couldn't get enough of) was beautifully woven into this fantasy tale. All in all, Rebel of the Sands was an engaging and thrilling read. I can't wait for the next installment.

Aesthetic is the right word for this book. The setting is absolutely mystical and captivating, and not just in the physical sense. The desert fantasy, magical creatures, rebels, dark myths, all beautifully woven into the plot. Of course, we can’t leave out the fact that our heroine is a snarky queen of sass which just makes it all so much more intense. Engaging and alluring, this would be an overall enjoyable read for fantasy fanatics.

I finished this one this morning and I can't wait to start Traitor to th Throne.

In the biggining there was something that was making it a little difficult to get into the story, but maybe that was college. I really liked this world and the character development. I do thing we can see Jin and Amani growing in this book. I think, in the beggining, Jin didn't care about all that much

Spoilerexcept his family
and Amani only cared about herself and Tamid, even tho that in the end she ended up caring more about herself than him. So I really liked seeing Amani go from not caring about anyone except herself and leaving people behind to starting to care about Jin and her friends.
SpoilerNever though she was going to end up being magical, always thought it's Jin who was a djinn
.
