I really wanted to like this, but certain things really grated at me. Just for once, I’d like to see some shounen manga that doesn’t make jokes about male characters creepily obsessing over how hot the female characters are. I just want to be able to read action stories and not hate the way the female characters are treated by both the male characters and the author. I might read the second volume to see if it improves, because I like the concept and I know Dragon Ball is a beloved series, but I’ll be honest, my hopes are not high.

I watched the Dragon Ball Z series and played all the video games for the series that came out during my childhood, but never got around to the original Dragon Ball. Dragon Ball is definitely geared towards teenage boys and it is funny (mostly funny because it is surprising at how inappropriate it is), quick, and action packed. I probably enjoyed this more because I was a fan of the characters going into my first read and I will definitely continue reading the series.
