Love this book, I now see how my brain works in a simple and effective way of explaining. For a simple person this was just at the right level for me. Well worth a read

This is such a clever book! Such a unique way to explain how the brain works and what we can do to alter our reactions and thoughts.
This is a book I’ll refer back every now and again.

As a psychology student and someone who has a lot of anxiety, I found this book both interesting and helpful!
I like that the analogy is easy to understand, even if you don’t know a lot about the technical side of the brain, and it’s easy to apply to real life. It’s also comforting to know that everything is backed up by science!

I listened to this as audiobook, which I strongly discourage as it was a monotone reading and perhaps I would've enjoyed the book more if it was in book form.
The whole chimp, computer, goblins and planets just confuse matters rather than make it easier. I found there was a lack of real life examples and the book desperately needed an injection of wit.
A lot of the stuff just seems like a rather basic rehash of simple psychology concepts with the whole chimp and planet stuff as dressing on top.

I think that the idea at the core of this book is very clever and I can see why it's helpful to lots of people who struggle with anxiety or disordered thinking.
However, I found it hard to engage with the way it's written and thought that it was quite repetitive.
This is a great tool if you are new to managing your thoughts and you want to learn a bit about the way the brain works and how you can control your thoughts via mindfulness.
