Read this because of James, which I preferred. Had moments of great adventure and moments where it didn't hold my interest.

I was expecting the Tom Sawyer book to be better, but I liked this one more. Tom is full of nonsense and he is always the annoying leader, so I guess I could empathise better with Huck Finn.
It is a nice coming of age story, with him and slave Jim escaping, and getting into adventures they didn't ask for.
They find good people, and some real mean awful scoundrels too, which add some spice to the adventure.
Sad to see how the white thought s poorly of the black people, even if they still liked them somehow, and were "good slave owners". Those were not pleasant times, but come to think of it, neither are these.

The audiobook was so terrible to listen to, I was losing so much of the story. The voice was monotonous and far too old for the young boys in the story. It made me dislike the book but I actually think I might really like it if I read it on a page...we'll see.

Alright, so I am actually very sad that my experience with this one turned out to be like this... I thought this was supposed to be better than the first book, "Adventures of Tom Sawyer", as almost all the reviews said, and I thought it would be, because I actually really liked Huck in the Sawyer book, but I respectfully have to disagree... I think I can see and understand the underlying messages and can also appreciate what Mark Twain is trying to do concerning 'slavery', but still, trying to read this was so painful and not at all fun like the Sawyer one, and I have to admit, I more or less just skimmed the second half of it... Maybe I will give it another chance later in the future, as sometimes it is because one is not ready for the experience yet (though I highly doubt this is the case for this one), but all I can do for now is just be honest about how I felt reading it and move on.
