I just think it’s brilliant that someone can become your hero by telling you and showing you that they are no hero.

I have to highly recommend audiobook, which contains exclusive covers and acoustic versions of some of Carlile's most popular songs at the end of every chapter. Also, at the end, there is a nearly two hour section of the music within back-to-back. This alone makes it superior to the other versions.
My gripes with this book ar very minor - it sometimes feels disjointed, especially at chapter breaks, but Carlile herself admits she isn't a writer. All in all, it's a decent memoir.

I knew a bit of Brandi from what I've heard her mention but none of that could have prepared me for her honesty and heart-warming truth as she narrates her "memoir-ish" book as she puts it. She gave a lot of truths of herself, her life, her family, both born into and found, and her music that I'm much more in love with her as a person than I am of her music.
There is a lot of self-reflection about herself and the music and I could her her smile at certain moments in some chapters especially as she mentions her friendships, famous and familial, that just made me smile too. She has such a great warmth in her tone that I was easily pulled in to listen to and I can fangirl about this for a while.
