some bits felt underdeveloped-- there were dialogue moments that didn't always flow right to me but none of that really bothered me because the whole book was gripping.

If i nickel for each consecutive book I've read about a sapphic dystopian futuristic love-story in which one woman with a prosthetic robot eye and engineered body enhancements is treated as the villain the story and the other lives in a ragtag home and has mommy and daddy issues, and is generally about taking down an oppressive society-
(The other book being Fable for the End of the World)

In all honesty, this book was great. The world, the action, the plot, were all amazing. But it's the characters, their dynamic, and the dialogue that really shone through. Every word out of someone's mouth was amazing and it really pushed this book up to four stars.
My biggest issue with this one is the writing. There were MANY times I didn't understand what was going on or what the characters were doing, even after rereading the entire page. As if some key sentences were just- cut.  At times it was a bit irritating, others it was easy to get past.
Beyond that, I had a great time reading this book, I'll be picking up the second very soon.

This book is carried by Eris and Sona, their development as people, and their subsequent connection to each other and others. Secondary characters are rather one note but their connections to the protagonists are dynamic. There is a decent amount of world building, but not as much as I would have liked. The world building present felt more "tell"/info dump than "show".

If you're looking for a YA dystopian with sci-fi elements, this is a good one if you don't mind better protagonist characterization than world building. I will certainly be reading the second book because I'm so curious how the story continues.

Overall a fun read. a bit more romance driven than I expected. Cool fighting sequences and I wish there was more of that
