The sequel I didn’t know I needed, at just the moment I needed it most.

Fannie Flagg is my flavor of feminist, and my kind of escape. To be back in Whistle Stop was comforting and pure delight. To find out the rest of the story was the icing on this sweet, Southern Hummingbird Cake. She is a master of the dual timeline and the duality of emotion. I loved every word.

Conclusion of Fried Green Tomatoes. Good book but I did prefer the 1st one more. Great narrator and author!

Listened to this book at 1.5 speed. Delightful stories embedded in one book with different time periods. All characters had a connection to Whistle Stop, Alabama. This is a fun and cozy read.

Odlučila sam da vam neću preporučiti ovaj roman. Naprotiv, ponovite gradivo "Pohanih zelenih rajčica", i knjige i filma jer oni to itekako zaslužuju.

This was such a cute sequel!! It definitely lived up to the original, even all these years after it was written. I loved it.

Fried Green Tomatoes is one of my all time favorite books. I think it started my love of a quirky cast of characters and small town setting. That is one of the reasons I enjoyed The Wonder Boy of Whistle Stop. I got to revisit all those characters and meet some more. But I settled on a 3 star review because there wasn't much of a story. I recognize there is a small story line, but most of the book felt like vignettes of the older characters. It almost felt like an book size epilogue to Fried Green Tomatoes instead of it's own story.

The Wonder Boy of Whistle Stop is a sweet novel that revisits many of the memorable characters from Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe. I really enjoyed the first book back in 1987, so I was a little reluctant to read this one. Sometimes sequels fail to recapture and continue the magic, but this book is a lovely collection of stories that will answer your questions about what became of Whistle Stop and Idgie, Ruth, Sipsey, Evelyn, and Buddy, Jr. The thing I liked the least was the non-linear nature of the stories that jumped around in time and place. Because of this, it just didn't feel as immersive for me as the original Fried Green Tomatoes. But if you are looking for a respite from politics and the pandemic, you will certainly find it in this book where everyone lives happily ever after.
