This book was a page turner, but the ending left me disappointed.
I could not not put this book down. I thought I knew the things, but I didn't. Twist and turn after twist and turn. Don't pick it up until you have time to finish it.

An unhappy couple buys a “murder house” - empty for decades - with the intent to renovate, because it’s cheap. But the house doesn’t like change and makes its inhabitants question their sanity. Is history repeating itself? I’m not a huge thriller reader, but I liked this. The characters are delightfully awful. A solid start to rejoining BOTM.

This felt messy. That's the best way to describe it. I know this is a debut. . . .it felt like it. However, it does hold some promise. There were some truly chilling sections in this where I did not want to let go of my death grip on the book. And then there were some sections where I rolled my eyes.
Overall, while the author holds some promise for her next book, this one was just okay.

I don’t think I’m meant to like Sarah but I really wish I had a main character to root with or connect with. She just plain dumb and has no foresight even thought it seems like she’s somewhat decent at conning others. I wish Reaper was the main character because he’s all I cared about
The scariest part of mental illness is not knowing if you’re crazy or imagining it. It’s the same with a body ache, am I dying or is it just indigestion? This book was a masterful stroke in everyone looking at you sideways as you descend into madness and all the while writing it off as just YOU. The masterful stroke was that she wasn’t crazy (at least not in the way you initially believe), but a victim of poisoning. The most satisfying part was after all the logical explanation of what transpired, the house did still appear to be haunted in the end. And who doesn’t love a genuinely haunted house? The only unsatisfying part was Joe was a dirtbag. Zero stars for him.
