A tender and important memoir of a Queer Muslim person and their experiences leaving their South Asian, growing up in the Middle East, and eventually, college and beyond in America.

Lamya’s interpretation of the Quran taught me a lot about faith and Islam in a tangible and contemporary way that I’ve never seen before (for any religion). Thoughtful and introspective and excellent.

Certain parts really hit me hard. Highly recommend this book to all, particularly white people.

A beautiful memoir, told with such self knowledge and grace, one that will linger with you long after reading.

I loved this memoir. I really enjoyed and appreciated Lamya’s interpretation of the Quran and how they used those interpretations as the structure of the book. The self-reflection they have done is so smart and deep and insightful. The book is well-written and engaging. Lamya’s story is sad and hard but also uplifting and inspiring. Here’s to us all building lives full of commitment, community, grit, self-care, and determination like Lamya.
