Yusuf 's chapter felt like a personal call out and acknowledgement. I love how Lamya is able to weave stories from the Quran into each chapter and give her own interpretations and teachings.

A beautifully written memoir that reads very much like a coming-of-age novel. Lamya discusses her upbringing and developing an understanding of their personal identity. She uses her experiences to explore cultural identity, white supremacy, queerness, and gender roles and intertwines it with theology from their Muslim upbringing.

Touching, intimate, beautiful memoir about growing up as a queer Muslim person. I loved it so much and felt that it was very understandable and accessible as someone with no knowledge of the religion of Islam.

My favorite parts were the interspliced scenes of Lamya and moments from Islamic texts. They're so beautifully written and a gorgeous display of belief that I've never seen before. This is also a wonderful offering for people who want to live rich, queer lives without coming out to their families and losing that familial connections. I empathize so much with this. Great read!
I loved this. Very calming and reflective. I really enjoyed how passages and parables from the Quran were sprinkled throughout and how Lamya analyzed them and connected them to her life. Especially appreciated the part about using they/them pronouns for Allah
