Writing a list of everything that was terrible and made no sense in this book would break the GR character limit so I'll only criticize this one thing instead: WHY THE FUCK ARE THESE ALIENS SO HUMAN?? They look exactly like humans (and they're hot of course) except they have pointy ears, long blonde hair and purple eyes (like a friend pointed out, basically Targaryens with elf ears) or like the other race of hot aliens are all white. Both races are tall and gorgeous of course by human standards, and there's a fated insta love because of course there is. And it's not only their looks that are only very slightly different from ours, their cultures are also very superficially different and that's just a lot of bullshit, these aliens evolved on different planets in different Solar Systems light years away from Earth.

Mamy rok 2380 i kadeci, którzy ukończyli właśnie Akademię Aurora, otrzymują swoje pierwsze przydziały. Tyler Jones, najlepszy uczeń akademii oczekuję na możliwość wyboru drużyny swoich marzeń, lecz nie wszystko idzie po jego myśli. Przez jego skłonność do niesłychanych aktów heroizmu, ląduje w drużynie wyrzutków, których nikt inny nie chciał.
Jednak to nie drużyna jest największym zmartwieniem Tyler’a, a tytułowa Aurora O’Malley. Dziewczyna, która spędziła dwieście lat w kriokapsule i teraz nie potrafi się odnaleźć. Nic nie wydaję się, takie jak powinno, a zwłaszcza Auri. Może okazać się ona kluczowa w wojnie tlącej się od miliona lat. Czy specyficzna drużyna 312, składająca się z nieudaczników i wyrzutków może być ostatnią nadzieją Galaktyki?
Jestem maksymalnie zakochana w tej książce, choć z początku niezbyt na to się zanosiło. Prawdopodobnie stoi za tym jedna postać, która totalnie skradła moje serce i wskoczyła do rankingu książkowych mężów. Jest nim Kaliis Idraban Gilwraeth, w skrócie Kal. Wyobraźcie sobie wysokiego elfa z długimi srebrzystymi włosami i fioletowymi oczami, który jest mistrzem sztuk walki. Ponadto jest nieco grumpy i totalnie zakochany w głównej bohaterce. Taki Legolas 2.0. No i to ten rodzaj chłopaka, który połamie ci wszystkie kończyny, jeśli skrzywdzisz jego wybrankę. Na każdej scenie z nim wzdycham z zauroczenia do kartek papieru. Jest po prostu niesamowity, a wątek romantyczny pomiędzy nim a Aurorą jest równie cudowny. Przez ostatnie dni żyje tylko nim. Przeczytajcie tę książkę choćby tylko ze względu na Kala, naprawdę go pokochacie.
Sama fabuła jest ciekawa i nie ma chwili na nudę. Nie jest ona banalna i naprawdę czytelnik wciąga się w wydarzenia. Autorzy sprawnie wprowadzają nas w cały świat, terminologie itp. Choć przyznam, że z początku byłam lekko skołowana, ale tak chyba jest przy nowej fantastyce. Oprócz bohaterów i fabuły urzekł mnie humor! Boże jak ja kocham książki z humorem, a w tej jest go naprawdę dużo. Szczególną robotę odwala tu Fin, którego pokochałam właśnie za jego humor.
Końcówka trzymająca w napięciu i przynajmniej dla mnie nieprzewidywalna. Serio spodziewałam się, że wszystko pójdzie po myśli bohaterów. Niemniej jednak to dla mnie duży plus, że nie wszystko jest takie ,,cukierkowe’’. Jestem przeogromnie ciekawa, co będzie dalej. Zwłaszcza że akcja kończy się w momencie, w którym dowiadujemy się wielu intrygujących rzeczy. Zastanawia mnie, jak rozwinie się wątek mocy Aurory, bo w tej części mamy zaledwie początek. No i oczywiście, co dalej z Kalem i Auri, na to czekam zdecydowanie najbardziej.

Do moons choose the planets they orbit? Do planets choose their stars? Who am I to deny gravity, Aurora? When you shine brighter than an constellation in the sky?
Kaufman and Kristoff have done it again! We follow Squad 312; a band of misfits thrown together at the start of the book after Tyler - the squads Alpha - misses his chance to choose his squad due to playing hero. This beautiful bunch have totally captured my heart, and seeing their development is so heartwarming!
I love the dynamic of the Aurora Legion squads - these compact groups of six comprised of an Alpha, Ace, Face, Tank, Gearhead, and Brain. Alphas are the leaders and tacticians, Aces are the pilots, Faces are the diplomats, Tanks are the highly skilled and efficient fighters, Gearhead will fix everything, and Brains bring the science and medicine.
Aurora is a girl completely out of time, having just woken up from 200 odd years of cyro-sleep. She must come to terms with everyone and the universe she knew being long gone. Humanity has encountered other lifeforms, her popculture references are lost on everyone, and did someone say conspiracy theories around the mission she was on?
I must admit, I would like to see a bit more of the individual characters, some do take a bit of a back seat, but the fast pace which limits this completely suits the book - packed with action and humour it was a joy to read and so I'm not letting this impact my rating. Each character has their own distinctive style and feel which does bridge some of this gap.
But they have not seen their sun die. Their people burn. Their world end. And they do not know, yet, that there are some breaks that cannot be fixed.
There is a lot of sadness in this story, and a lot of loss that the members of the squad have suffered. I think this makes the little things between them all the more poignant though. The dedication at the beginning of the book is definitely apt, and I'm not going to lie nearly made me cry just in itself- I think everyone has felt a sense of not belonging before, and I know I definitely have struggled with it myself.
I'm certainly looking forward to the next installment!

What utter brilliance did I just read?
Aurora Rising was in my top 5 most anticipated books of the year, and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT, FUCKING GOD BLESS YOU!
It was exciting, it was dangerous, it was smart, it was witty, it was heartbreaking, it was endearing, it was everything.
Let me tell you, there was not a dull moment in sight. I was hooked from the first sentence of the first paragraph of the first page of the first chapter. Something intriguing was happening on every page, which kept me turning them faster and faster. I practically read the whole thing in one sitting. The plot was complex enough to have more than one direction, more than one meaning, which is important for a series. Plus it twisted and turned in several directions I did not predict (but, if I'm honest, there were also a few predictable points in there as well). And the characters! Oh, my love for these characters is extensive. From Finian to Auri to Zila to Ty to Cat to Scarlett to Kal (and yes, in that order specifically), I adored them all. And love how much this story centered around their friendship and companionship, a bunch of misfits finding a family when most of them had none. It was beautiful to read about.
All in all, totally on Alex's list of highly recommended books.
