Hooked at times but dragged at others

Local Woman Missing by Mary Kubica was a bit of a mixed experience for me. Some parts completely pulled me in—I was flipping pages late into the night, needing to know what came next. Kubica definitely knows how to build suspense and keep you guessing.

But other parts felt like a push to get through. The pacing was uneven, and while the plot twists were meant to shock, they didn’t quite land for me. I ended up feeling more underwhelmed than surprised, and the ending left me with a heavy heart.

What really stuck with me, though, was the emotional weight of the story. It’s a chilling reminder of how one event can ripple out and destroy so many lives. It hurt to read at times—not because of the writing, but because of the raw, painful consequences each character had to face.

An okay read overall, with moments of intensity and emotion, but not quite the thriller I was hoping for.

Told from multiple point of view. One woman goes missing, then another women and her child goes missing. Are the connected or just coincidental.

Very intriguing story with an ending I did not see coming. Kept me guessing up until the end.

Great book, very entertaining with just the perfect amount of suspense. Ending was crazy and not entirely believable but then again maybe it could happen.

I really enjoyed listening to this.

There are multiple POVs in this book and there are different timelines. I usually get confused by that, but this one was easy to follow. Also, it took me a while to figure out whodunit. I let my guard down. I didn't expect it coming lol.

Some chapters seemed unnecessary while you're at it, but then they'd all make sense in the end. There were also some characters added here that aren't really relevant but are there to deceive the readers and I'm not even mad about it.

Loved that the story gave us a big picture of what happened and then works backwards through different characters POV’s. Quite a few plot lines tricked me into thinking I knew what was going to happen but then I was very surprised by the end. Was a real page turner the last 100 pages.

Thrillers are really hard for me because I find it difficult to suspend my disbelief and just go with the flow. That was my biggest issue with this book. Everyone was so unbelievable that the book itself was unbelievable. It started out good, but as things progressed and the plot got more convoluted, I found myself enjoying it less.

I honestly had no inkling of what the truth was up until the very end. It was kind of slow and first, and very sad, but the unveiling was worth it.
