The Vinemont brothers are back, fighting over the beautiful Stella, the girl who plays such a huge role in the Acquisition trials. They will do anything to win, even risk the girl who's taking their emotions by storm.

I could not put Magnate down, nothing could stop me from reading this book in one sitting. Stella and her fierce determination carry over from Counsellor, but in this book we learn even more about her past, her personal darkness, and what she's willing to do to get away from the Vinemont brothers, especially Sinclair. I loved reading Stella's perspective, just like before, she has such intense inner dialogue, fighting with herself over her desire to both be away from Sinclair Vinemont and to be in his arms at any given chance. Her emotions run wild in this book and I think that made it all the more interesting for me. What blew Magnate out of the water for me though, was reading how much Sinclair and Lucias have changed. I expected much of the same from both of them, but the impending winter trial and the reality of the Acquisition rules really brought out a lot of changes from both. The tender side we see in both characters, as they interact with family and come to term with their feelings, is such a huge difference from Magnate and I was ready to eat out of Sinclair's hand if he offered.

The darkness and mystery in this book continue to be just as heavy as they were in the previous novel, if not more. The Acquisition is explained in even greater detail and as a reader your head will become so jumbled with just how sick the wealthy Louisiana families are. I found myself seeing good in people I shouldn't, choosing sides, and trying to figure out an end that was so unpredictable. The romance in this book is especially dark and heavy, I struggled with the feelings I wanted to blossom between characters, because I knew the trials brought depravity, fear, and danger with them. It is all incredibly explicit and if you're like me you'll be asking yourself why you like it all so much. I was so engaged by all the relationship dynamics between the characters and I found myself eating up the stories about the past and present trials.

I definitely found the second installment of the Acquisition series to be much more developed than the first, Counsellor. Not only were the main characters far more developed, but the secondary characters didn't feel like background noise anymore. There was a lot of development to the plot and I found myself really enjoy the suspense and anticipation. Intrigue will have you starting this book, the dark suspense and romance will keep you reading. Magnate is not a standalone novel and should be read after the completion of Counsellor, book three in the series is due this April.

Revelations.

Now this second book I much preferred, I am now warming more to sin after some of his actions in magnate, especially with the big cliffhanger at the end of book one. We now understand why the trials for sovereign are so important to him and he will do anything to win, the stakes are that high. but then he has to spoil it with his stupid big gob and say something super mean to Stella , Yeh Yeh Mr multiple personality disorder stop giving me whiplash. Lucius is strange still can not decide about him he's seems a lot colder than sin Teddy well he's adorable a real sweetie and a lovely friend to our poor acquisition. Dylan the stepbrother grrrrr total douche can I throw things at him like hard , he made me want to commit bloody violence. I am now looking forward to the next installment to this series I have a feeling little Stella is gonna kick some butt, I hope the whole high society gets there just dessert's bunch of privileged overindulged scum bags the lot of them, and I for one will be chuckling gleefully when it happens.

ARC received from netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

I stayed up late last night to finish this up. And I waited half a day before writing this review but words simply fail to describe what I am feeling now.

“Seven rules to see you through.
Seven rules to live by.
Seven rules to make it hurt.
Seven rules to kill by.”

So i read the 1st book and loved it so much and then somehow missed when the other two released so i finally am going back reading them all together. Holy Toledo! Seriously i didn’t love when they were in Cuba, but these twists and just the whole book. It’s like a train wreck coming and you know it and then bam all these random trains show up. Maybe that didn’t make any sense but i absolutely loved this!

As I said when I reviewed the previous installment, I was looking forward for the next books in the series. Now, I have to say that I was not disappointed in the slightest. Contrary to what so commonly happens, the story did not lose strength, the characters did not become all mushy, and the sex scenes’ only flaw was that there were too few of them.

The story continues believable enough, and had some nice twists and turns. The second trial was very good, I was glued to my kindle and almost missed my bus stop (not the best book to read on a bus, I’ll give you that). I kept on reading while I walked to work…

Be warned, it ends on a hell of a cliffhanger and if you are like me and can barely stand the waiting, I’ll recommend you wait until the next book is actually finished and out before starting this one, because now I am suffering.

Again, you have to have a large degree of tolerance to read this book, definitely not recommended to everyone.

Wow! Where do I start?
I think I like this book even better than the first! And the ending! I can't even... I NEED to read Sovereign now. Desperately.
If you haven't started the Acquisition series, what are you waiting for? It's almost like an erotic hunger games. Hard to explain without giving away too much!
Basically, a society of wealthy families have a reigning Sovereign and every ten years they hold Acquisition trials to decide who the next Sovereign will be. Three names are drawn out and they must 'acquire' someone for a year, to take part in the trials. These take place four times in that year, one for every season.
Only the oldest sibling in each family knows the rules. When Stella chose to switch her 'master' from Sinclair to Lucius, he finally learned what it truly takes to become Sovereign. Suddenly the trials didn't seem so fun anymore.
Stella is fed up with all the secrets and lies. She does a little digging of her own, and what she finds out... it could just be what breaks her. There is no way she can let anyone else win the trials. Not when so much is at stake.

I absolutely love these books! They leave you wanting more. Celia Aaron has done a fantastic job!

Now that's what I'm talking about.

better

This book gave me much more of what I expected from the series. It was raw, deep, a bit scary, emotional, tragic, etc. The connection that was lacking in book 1 was found here in book 2.

coolstory

Stella showed strength in the face of her oppressors (the Sovereign) and I was impressed by her moxie when she had to endure the Christmas trial. All the while she tried to deny how far she had fallen for Sinclair. As for Sin, I liked him even more. He definitely came through and redeemed himself, not only in Stella's eyes, but mine as well. And once again, these two were hella hot together.

I can't even imagine what's going to happen in book 3. Stella wants to tear the sovereignty apart, but she's going to need help. Can she count on Sinclair and Lucius? So exciting!!
