Pretty good story. I liked the dual plots, which always adds suspense. A little hokey for me.
goly gee.
this book started off really strong for the first 100 pages and then put me in the biggest slump. They should’ve called it the longest slump instead of the longest ride. It took me like a literal month. The last 100 pages sped it up pretty well, but the middle felt like a whole lot of nothing.
It did open up my new love of cowboys

I enjoyed it and didn't cry as much as I thought I might :) I definitely liked the 2 story lines and loved the characters. The end result was predictable, although the getting there wasn't quite what I expected (but close).
Sophia is an art history major at Wake Forest University. Luke works on his family ranch and is a successful bull rider. Ira is a man in his nineties who has lived an incredible life with his deceased wife Ruth. This story of love, family, art and self-discovery leads Sophia to meet Luke, and for them to meet Ira in an unlikely way. Sophia, Luke and Ira's stories are all very unique to one another yet in the end they are all co-dependent upon each other until the very end. Sophia is tested by Luke and the different life that he lives compared to what she has ever known. Luke struggles to understand what Sophia sees in him. As he travels for his dangerous job of bull riding, will their relationship be able to overcome the demands and dangers of his choices? How could an old man and this young couple have anything in common? The love that Sophia and Luke, and Ira and Ruth have in their lives is one-of-a-kind in a way that it seems only Nicholas Sparks can craft. If you have enjoyed any of this other books, this one is a must read. I found the stories interesting and loved learning about bull riding at the same time. This may be my favorite book by Sparks that I have read yet. Pick it up today if you haven't already!

Nicholas Sparks can write a romance. We all know that. He once again proves it in this story.
In this book, he brings two stories together: Sophia/Luke and Ira/Ruth. I love, love, love Sophia and Luke's story. She's a city girl, he's a country boy (really country, as in bull riding--think 8 Seconds.) That was a great story and so is this one.
Ira and Ruth's story is necessary for this story and Sparks does a great job of weaving the two stories together. However, where Sophia and Luke's story is very character driven, Ira and Ruth's story is very story driven. I found that it was a bit drawn out and too detailed for what we needed (hence 4 stars instead of 5).
I enjoyed this story and would definitely recommend it if you are a Sparks fan. He does not disappoint.

I have yet to find a Nicholas Sparks book or movie adaptation that I did not just adore, this one is more of the same. It was beautiful, meaningful, touching, and a moving story about two men that find the real meaning to life. Luke and Ira are the main characters; although Sophia is made a main character but I feel that her portion of the story was more like Ruth's part secondary to the men and what they were feeling. It was a little frustrating when it came to all for the switching but over all the twist and connection was fantastic, not how I saw it playing out at all. Overall, I LOVED the journey and can't wait to see how this one is adapted to the big screen.
I watched the movie and liked it so I picked up the book. It was an enjoyable read. I really liked Ira and Sophia's relationship in the movie and that was different in the book. That was my only disappointment.
Nicholas Sparks does it again. A heart warming story unlike most of his previous works, but still all about people, and the unexpected juncture at which they meet. At this stage of my life, this book reminded me again to appreciate the wonderful wife I have also been blessed to share a life with. It reminded me to treasure the time we still have together, and to make the most of every moment. I even had the privilege to listen to the audiobook with her as we worked our farm and prepare produce for the market. Without giving away anything specific, rest assured, this is one of Nicholas' feel-good stories!
