Pretty disappointed in this one. There was not enough concentration on the two main characters whatsoever, yet at the same time for most of the book it was like most of the Brothers and their wives had disappeared. So much time was spent on John Matthew and his story that Phury and Cormia were overshadowed and and their eventual love made unbelievable since they were never even together. And it took me 50% of the book before I really got into it. A disappointing one.

This one just didn't do it for me.
Reasons:
Reasons:
- More of the book was about Phury being hung up on Bella. I know Bella explained that Phury didn't really love her but her explanation didn't line up with his thoughts and even if they did, it doesn't mean anything unless Phury himself tells Cormia. Also Phury just dumping Cormia on Bella because he thinks they both need someone is just a dick move when he knew Cornia was aware of his feelings for Bella!
- He chose Layla after he rejected Cormia. Now we can say it's just because he knew he had to choose someone and he thought Cormia didn't want to be there, but that doesn't change that he had more chemistry with Layla on that page than with Cormia in the whole book.
- Which leads me to the miscommunication. Normally I don't mind a miscommunication trope but this one lasted nearly 600 pages plus the book before this.
- Cormia had more chemistry with John Matthew than Phury for half the book, even after Phury and Cormia are together.
- The things that make Cormia "love" Phury are literally the things that make him depressed and turn to drugs.
I could lengthen the list but this sums it up pretty well, I think.
Graphic: Addiction, Drug abuse, Sexual assault
Minor: Sexual assault
Agony!
3.75/5 Stars. You know what I like about this book and the whole series thus far? The multiple POV’s. They are well done and it contributes to this well rounded feeling with the world and all that is going on. Though each book has focused one a particular pair, each book has POV’s of other characters that we have read from before, and sometimes new ones. Everyone contributes to the over all arc in this world. This is what I enjoy most.
To be honest (which is the point of reviews) Phury and Cormia drove me nuts...this terrible back and forth the entire book just really annoyed me and tired me out and I think this is why it took me so long so read this one. I just wanted them to get it together sooner. I am not saying I dislike these characters but, how their relationship and interactions were written in the book was exasperating for me. I was seriously shaking my head 90% of the time I read from either POV. Simply put, for me they were not the stars in this book. I will say, I look forward to see how they continue to develop and how they impact the rest of this world in the next books.
John Matthew, Quinn & Blay...they are just growing up, aren’t they?! ☺️ I have enjoyed their dynamics thus far.
We had some great and unexpected developments in this book which were great!
Also, I am not sure I will ever be able to give any of these books 5 stars, not because they are not good but because (bare with me here) I do not like how the brothers talk...this “true”, “tight”, “feel me”, etc. seems so out of character to me for Vampires that are as old as they are. Just doesn’t quite fit. I can see it for the current younger generation but not for those currently in the brotherhood.
Finally, I think the author does a good job in giving these vampires some serious flaws and real life “human” obstacles. This book focuses a lot on drug addiction and how it affects one of our main characters and those around him. I think that overall these are the most human vampires I have read in a series and I quite enjoy it in this world.
Tis’ all I got folks!

3.75 stars rounded
I ended up liking this one a lot more than I thought I would. In novels past, I was so frustrated with Phury and how he inserted himself into his brother's relationship. Going into this one, I was afraid that history would repeat itself with John Matthew and Cormia, but luckily, we did not go in that direction.
A lot of things happened in this novel that I really did enjoy. There seemed to be more secondary plots than usual going on in this book, but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. I liked all the secondary plots and characters, so that was no hardship.
I still had the same problems I always do with these novels. I have to space them out of I can't read them. To me, it always feels that the author is trying to hard to make the characters seem gritty and hardcore. The lingo used, talking about what's the sitch and other like scenarios comes across as almost cheesy sometimes. It had me rolling my eyes a few times. That and the names. The names and their creative spellings always feel cheesy also. The way I've gotten around this is to listen to the audio books from my library.
I'm going to continue the series, most likely, but it will be some time between novels for me again.

This wasn't as terrible a book as the other reviews led me to believe. It was frustrating as I wanted to slap phury silly. However, when I got to the end...Angels? really? seems an inconsistent inclusion. I guess I'll have to wait and see how that plays out. I also don't know exactly how I feel about the vampire lesser. He has none of the weaknesses of either vampires or lessers? Again, I'll wait and see, but i didn't like Lash from the beginning and I don't like his character now. Seems a pointless anger and seems a pointless evil.
I couldn't get into this one as much as the others. I think the addictive personality didn't resonate with me. Looking forward to John Matthew's book though.
The rating for this book seemed to be a bit all over the place, so I wasn't sure how I would like it. Since there had been a lot of Phury in book 5, I thought I'd get bored. The pacing of this book was amazing. Not that I don't like it, but in most of the books the brothers were quick to do the deed. But this book was different. Because of everything Phury had gone through, always putting others first, being celibate, it was difficult for him to take that step with anyone. I liked that he didn't get over that quickly. He showed tremendous growth throughout this book which is something that I can appreciate. I like to see people grow and change into a better person that they hope to be. He had to struggle so much over doing what needed to be done and doing what he needed to do for himself. At the end of the book, he hadn't solved all his problems, in fact he was far from it. He was still battling with his addiction but he learned to overcome it.
I also loved how the brothers, definitely Z, tried to help Phury change and stop his destructive patterns.
John has touched me since day one. He is always so sweet, caring, and sensitive to others. I love it. He can be a hard ass when he wants to but he's really grown into himself. I can't wait to see what happens with him. He finally starts to deal with his issues after the shower incident. It was difficult but he faced it. I can't believe Lash, how people can be so cruel. Well as we see in this book, there's a reason why Lash has always been such a bastard. He got it from his father.
Over all loved it. I don't mind the voices on the audiobook accept for the voice of Mr. D. I really love cowboys (as if I've seen them in real life or something LOL I only really know about the ones in Rough Riders) but I cannot stand the way the narrator does his voice. I mean I really can't stand Mr. D at all or any of the other lessers. They're just annoying!

It was great to see that side of Z. I've always loved him and even with all his issues and the stuff that he was going through with Bella, he still helped his brother a bit. I was so happy that he didn't lose Bella or their baby.John has touched me since day one. He is always so sweet, caring, and sensitive to others. I love it. And finally he got with Xhex! YAY! I knew something would eventually happen. I really hope that they can end up together but I worry so much about Xhex and Rhevenge. I couldn't believe what happened with Blay and Quinn yet I had a feeling because of the way Blay was always looking.Over all loved it. I disliked Phury's internal dialogue aka "the Wizard" so much I skipped over most of it. OK, I hated the Wizard. Plowed through to see where the overall story is going and get to better characters. Skipped the gratuitous sex scenes, so reading this one was pretty quick.
I just couldn’t stay on board with the main character. He was always finding excuses not to do the things I really wanted him to and he was constantly begging for a pity party. Not my speed.
This book by far is one of my favorites. While I didn't care much for Phury and Cormia's story, what I did enjoy was the action, and sexy times.
Getting more of John's story was great, and the whole Qhuinn and Blaylock togetherness!
The evilness is ramping up with the lessers, the Omega and now LASH. Rhevenge and his black mailer is comical and sexy.
All in all it was a very good book. I am so happy for Bella and Zsadist.
